Ohio Bike Week Is Here: Ride Safe and Look Twice

Ohio Bike Week brings thousands of riders, visitors, vendors, music fans, and motorcycle enthusiasts to Sandusky for one of the biggest rally events in the Midwest.

For many people, this week is about the ride, the music, the lakefront, the downtown block party, and the motorcycle community. We hope everyone has a great weekend, enjoys the event, and gets home safely.

But with more bikes on the road, the risk of serious accidents also increases. Whether you are riding into the City of Sandusky for Ohio Bike Week, meeting up with friends downtown, heading to Mad River Harley-Davidson, or just driving through town, please slow down, look twice, and give motorcycles the space they deserve.

No one ever wants to think about what happens if a ride turns into an accident. But if you, a friend, or a family member is involved in a motorcycle crash, serious injuries, medical bills, time away from work, and questions about what happens next can follow quickly.

Gallon, Takacs & Boissoneault helps injured riders and families understand their rights after motorcycle accidents, serious injuries, and wrongful death claims.

Did You Know? Your Social Media Can Be Used Against You After an Accident

After an accident, it is natural to want to tell people what happened. You may want to post an update, explain your side, vent about the other driver, or respond to everyone asking if you are okay.

But social media can quickly become a problem after a crash. Posts about the accident, comments about who was at fault, photos from the scene, updates about your injuries, check-ins, videos, or frustrated comments about the other driver can all be taken out of context by an insurance company.

Even if you are telling the truth, your words may be used in a way you did not intend. A comment like “I’m okay” may be used to question your injuries. A post about what you “think” happened may be used to challenge your version of events. Bashing the other driver online may make the situation more complicated.

But it is not just posts about the accident that can cause problems. A smiling photo at a family event, a check-in at a restaurant, a comment about having a good day, or a picture from an activity may also be used to argue that your injuries are not as serious as you claim. Even when a post has nothing to do with the crash, insurance companies may try to use it to question how the accident has affected your daily life.

That does not mean every photo or comment tells the full story. People can smile in a picture and still be in pain. They can leave the house and still be struggling. They can have one good moment in the middle of a very difficult recovery.

The safest approach is to avoid posting about the accident, your injuries, the other driver, or your claim while the case is pending. It is also important to be careful with everyday posts, comments, and check-ins because insurance companies may be watching for anything they can use against your personal injury claim.

At Gallon, Takacs & Boissoneault, our personal injury lawyers help accident victims understand how insurance companies evaluate claims and what steps may help protect their case after a crash.

Who Is Really Handling Your Case?

Many law firms advertise themselves as local attorneys or hometown lawyers. But what happens after you sign?

In some cases, the law firm you hire may refer your case to another attorney or another law firm. Sometimes that lawyer may not even be located in your community or your state.

In this video, President & Managing Partner Kevin Boissoneault explains why it is important to ask one simple question before hiring an attorney:

Will my case stay with the law firm I hire?

At Gallon, Takacs & Boissoneault, we do not transfer cases. We handle our cases in-house and work directly with our clients throughout the legal process.

Before hiring a lawyer, make sure you understand who will actually be handling your case.

Were You Injured While Delivering Packages?

Delivery driver accident claims can be more complicated than a regular car accident.

If someone is hurt while delivering packages, food, groceries, medicine, or other goods, the claim may involve more than one insurance policy and more than one legal issue. Was the driver working at the time? Were they an employee or an independent contractor? Were they logged into a delivery app? Did they use their own vehicle or a company vehicle? Did another driver cause the crash?

Those details matter.

A delivery accident may involve workers’ compensation, personal injury, commercial insurance, app-based coverage, uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage, or a claim against an at-fault driver. A 1099 or independent contractor label does not always answer every legal question.

In this blog, Workers’ Compensation Attorney Breanna Norman explains why delivery driver accident claims should be reviewed carefully before accepting a settlement or assuming only one insurance policy applies.

When Something Feels Wrong in a Nursing Home

Families trust nursing homes and care facilities to protect the people they love. When that trust is broken, the signs are not always obvious at first.

Unexplained injuries, sudden changes in mood, fearfulness, poor hygiene, repeated infections, unusual weight loss, or a noticeable decline in care can all be reasons to ask more questions.

Nursing home abuse and neglect can happen quietly, and many families do not realize something is wrong until the harm has already been done. Paying attention, documenting concerns, and speaking up can make a difference.

If your loved one was seriously injured or you believe neglect may have played a role, Gallon, Takacs & Boissoneault can help you understand your legal options.

Did You Know? Construction Season Can Be Dangerous for Everyone on the Road

Ohio has a running joke that we only have two seasons: winter and construction.

By the time the orange cones show up, drivers are already frustrated. Traffic slows down. Lanes shift. Crews are working on moving vehicles. Disabled cars may be sitting on the shoulder. People are trying to get to work, school, appointments, and home.

But construction season is not just an inconvenience. It can be dangerous.

In 2025, Ohio recorded more than 4,400 work zone crashes. In Michigan, preliminary numbers showed nearly 6,000 work zone crashes, more than 1,100 injuries, and 25 deaths.

That is why slowing down and paying attention matters.

Ohio and Michigan both have Move Over laws for certain vehicles with flashing lights, including emergency, road service, maintenance, and utility vehicles. But even when a vehicle on the shoulder is not an emergency vehicle, moving over when it is safe to do so can help protect the people inside or outside that vehicle.

If you have ever stood near the side of the road while cars fly past, you know the force of that wind. It is unsettling. It is dangerous. And it is a reminder that a few extra feet of space can make a difference.

We see it every day during construction season: orange cones, lane closures, frustrated drivers, and people trying to maneuver through it all.

Slow down. Move over when you can. Give road workers, emergency responders, disabled vehicles, and other drivers room to stay safe.

We are all trying to get where we are going. Let’s make sure everyone gets there.

The "No Free Bite" Law

Many people believe a dog gets one free bite before the owner can be held responsible. In Ohio, that is not how the law works.

In this video, Personal Injury Attorney Jeff Swiech with Gallon, Takacs & Boissoneault explains Ohio's dog bite laws, including strict liability, who may be responsible for a dog attack, and when an injured person may have the right to seek compensation.

Dog bite injuries can lead to medical bills, lost wages, scarring, and lasting physical and emotional effects. Understanding your rights after a dog attack is an important first step toward protecting yourself and your family.

What happens when the other driver changes their story after a car accident?

It is frustrating when you know what happened, but the other driver starts blaming you once the insurance claim begins. Suddenly, a straightforward accident can turn into a disputed fault case.

Our latest blog explains what to do if the other driver lies about the accident, why evidence matters, and how photos, witnesses, police reports, video footage, medical records, and vehicle damage can help show what really happened.

If you were injured in a car accident and the other driver is blaming you, changing their story, or the insurance company is questioning your claim, it is important to protect yourself early.

Memorial Day: Honor, Remember, and Travel Safely

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their sacrifice is the reason we can gather with family, spend time with friends, and enjoy this holiday weekend.

As many people travel, attend cookouts, head to the lake, ride motorcycles, or spend time on the road this long weekend, we also encourage everyone to be careful and make safe choices.

Holiday weekends often bring heavier traffic, more distractions, impaired driving, and rushed decisions behind the wheel. Please slow down, stay alert, wear your seat belt, look twice for motorcycles, and never drive under the influence.

From all of us at Gallon, Takacs & Boissoneault, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend.
