The City of Marine City will be flushing hydrants the week between 11pm and 6am.

This means that the DPW will be flowing water out of the hydrants during the night. So if you see this occurring, it is OK!

For today's historical post, I wanted to share this article that was printed in a few publications that I have found titled "History of the Marine City Fire Department" by William S. Carman.

I'd like to thank you all for the support and feedback from these Friday posts. I have found it enjoyable to look back on the history we have sitting here and I am glad that you all appreciate it as well!

Very cool information!

This week we look back to 1973. The Marine City Fire Department was the first in the county to have a "mechanical heart massager." This was an early mechanical CPR device that would administer chest compressions and deliver oxygen via a pneumatic valve. This device cost $1,700, in 2022 (adjusted for inflation) the price would be over $11,000!

We have come a long way with CPR since 1973. While we no longer have an automated chest compression device, our transporting agency/partners over at Tri-Hospital EMS have one on every frontline ambulance! (It is, of course, the latest model, not the 1973 version!)
