We welcome the opportunity to listen to your needs and develop a sensible strategy to meet them. With our technical expertise, experience, methodolog

y, and operational capacity, Deerpoint Group is uniquely qualified to solve your challenges, and committed to being accountable for the outcome. Originally based in Fresno, CA, Deerpoint Group was built on the philosophy of providing our customers with programs that truly define full service. For example, all of the on-ranch work, including chemical delivery, material feeding, equipment maintenance, and reporting, would be performed by Deerpoint Group field service technicians. This unique approach – coupled with superior product quality and patented delivery systems – set Deerpoint Group apart from day one. California’s Central Coast vineyards were the initial market opportunity for our unique programs. More and more grape growers were converting to drip/micro-irrigation technology, but they were encountering plugged systems due to the interaction of certain fertilizers with poor quality water. Frustrated by frequently replacing costly sections of their drip systems, growers were grateful for Deerpoint Group’s innovative solution: a preventative maintenance/continuous chemical feed program and regular site visits by our field personnel. Our business expanded rapidly on the coast, from vineyards to neighboring strawberry fields, and then to leafy greens growers who counted on Deerpoint Group for pathogen bacteria control. As Deerpoint Group’s reputation grew, so did the company, expanding to cover all of the farming areas in California, and then into Arizona. We soon discovered that the precision approach we took in treating water was perfectly adaptable to fertilization. In 2009, Deerpoint Group’s chemical technologies expanded to include innovative fertilizers, micronutrients, and foliar products, including our patented “white box” and customer-applied fertilizers. And we also saw explosive growth in precision-fed, patented fertilizers at customer irrigation system sites. It quickly became clear that the increased business would require more operational space. So Deerpoint Group relocated to a larger 10,000 sq. warehouse facility in northwest Fresno and, shortly thereafter, another 10,000 sq. Even this would prove to be a temporary solution to our growing needs. In 2015, the company acquired a 12-acre site in nearby Madera, CA, and embarked on a large-scale construction project for our main headquarters. In April of 2016, Deerpoint Group opened the doors of our new facility, with 50,000 sq. of office and warehouse space and a chemical blending facility. More expansions were completed in 2018, 2019 and 2020, including our own fleet of Deerpoint Group delivery trucks, a weigh scale and an additional 60,000 sq. of chemical blending, reactors and chemical storage. Future plans include the completion of a 40-car rail spur. While we are proud of our growth and expansion through the years, we are equally proud that our Deerpoint Group facilities recycle all materials and produce zero discharge. Our state-of-the-art laboratory houses all of the highly specialized analytical equipment and our team of trained professionals to support our customers with soil, water, and tissue analysis. While Deerpoint Group has come a long way since our humble beginnings, we remain committed to the R&D efforts that have always enabled us to produce unique and innovative products and programs. We’re proud to have helped so many growers overcome challenges to achieve spectacular results, and just as proud that our journey has led Deerpoint Group to the forefront of our industry as a leading manufacturer of the highest quality, effectively priced grower-friendly fertilizer solutions.

If there's one crop type that is a perfect fit for the DPG White Box™, it's alliums.

Instead of periodic heavy feedings, it delivers potassium, nitrogen, and up to 10 other nutrients with every irrigation cycle, so onion and garlic plants have the nutrition they need, when they need it, in the most beneficial amounts.

And remember, there is no capital cost to installing a DPG White Box™. We own and maintain the box itself so you don't need to manage another piece of hardware.

Have you heard that almond and pistachio trees stop taking up nutrients after October 1st?

We hear this one a lot this time of year, and it doesn't hold up to the Deerpoint Group, LLC. team. Temperatures often push toward 100°F in a lot of California growing regions well past October 1st. If a tree is still pulling water at those temps, it's still pulling nutrients too, and storing them for winter. Uptake slows as trees head into dormancy, but it doesn't stop on a calendar date.

That matters right now: a lot of our almond hull samples came back low on boron, and pistachios had a light crop this year with more blanks than usual. Skip postharvest nutrition because "the trees aren't feeding anymore," and you risk starting next spring's bloom already behind. And with 2027 shaping up to be a heavy bloom year, this isn't the year to guess.

We broke down what's actually going on postharvest in almonds and pistachios, and why a foliar spray alone won't fix deficiencies this late in the season.

Check it out the link in the comments!

Where'd you first hear the October 1st rule? Curious how far it's traveled.

Planning a postharvest foliar on your almonds this year?

Here's our take: for most growers, it's not the best use of a pass, even if you're already going out for mites or NOW.

By this point in the season, leaves are dusty, stressed, and hardening off for winter. Their ability to absorb nutrients is dropping fast. Add a full canopy in the way, and even a well-timed spray struggles to reach the fruiting spurs and buds where it'd actually help next year's crop. You're paying for that pass without getting much back.

If the goal is a jump-start on next year's bud development, there's a better window: an early pre-bloom or pink bud foliar. Nutrients go straight to the spurs and buds, and the tree can actually use it.

And the best solution of all? A DPG White Box™ hits bloom, in-season, and post-harvest timing automatically, based on what your trees need when they need it, so you're not the one tracking the calendar.

Curious what your team's post-harvest plan looks like this year — drop it in the comments, or reach out and we'll talk through it.

The Deerpoint Group team has been up and down the Central Valley observing almond harvest and we've noticed some interesting patterns.

𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. The Los Banos area is shaping up to be a standout for Nonpareils. Mid-valley and central blocks are solid across the board. The north is having a tougher go of it with yields and nut size both down. And the fallout of this year's water stresses is showing up in windrows in parts of Madera.

𝗡𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲. No shocking news there, but that's the one constant across varieties this year. Great news for those growers that are seeing good sizing.

𝗩𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺. Nonpareils have been the most consistent performer. Monterey lived up to its reputation for being weather-moody; we've got blocks finished and off the trees while others a short drive away are still weeks out. Independence had some real bright spots, especially in younger, more vigorous plantings.

𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿. Older trees with heavier leaf growth are trending toward smaller nuts, while some of the newer variety and rootstock combinations are outproducing them with less input. Might end up being a bigger driver of this year's results than region alone.

What's it looking like on your end? has this been more of a Los Banos year or a north valley year for you?

Jeff Carr, our Director of Grower Relations, brought up some considerations about pistachio postharvest nutrition applications recently that we'd like to share.

He said that when it comes to postharvest nutrition, pistachios are a very different beast from other tree nuts. The question isn't just "when" to apply, but "which shake?'

The ideal scenario? Jeff says it's to apply postharvest nutrients as close to the first shake as possible because pistachio trees naturally begin declining steadily through the season. Unlike almonds with their high peaks and low valleys, pistachios have a harder shutdown. By the time you get to late-season applications, the tree's capacity to take up and utilize nutrients diminishes significantly.

Some growers want to split applications between shakes, others prefer to wait until after the second shake. But if Jeff were to suggest something, he'd recommend pushing nutrients on earlier than later, when the tree can actually use them effectively.

The DPG team was having an internal meeting recently and Jeff Carr, our Director of Grower Relations, had some thoughts about almond postharvest nutrition applications that we'd like to share.

He said that when it comes to postharvest nutrition in almonds, timing is key.

His hot take is that too many growers delay postharvest applications until all varieties finish harvesting. But that's leaving weeks on the table while your most valuable variety, nonpareils, are starving for nutrients.

Jeff's recommendation is to start postharvest applications on nonpareils as early as possible. Even if there's only one irrigation between nonpareil and pollinator harvest, get something on those trees.

Why's it such a big deal? We've all heard about the expected El Niño winter. If you wait to feed your trees until everything has been harvested and it rains, you're out of luck entirely. Certainly something to think about.

Most postharvest tree nut conversations start and end with N. But potassium and boron are doing real work during that time, too.

Potassium supports the tree's overall recovery and stress tolerance after harvest and boron plays a huge role in setting up the flower buds that will become next year's crop.

Feed your trees only nitrogen and you're leaving a lot on the table.

After a year like this, spending more on inputs is the last thing anyone wants to think about, but that's not really what this is about.

It's less about "spending more" and more about not skipping a step that could decide whether next year bails you out.

Our agronomy team is seeing above average blank percentages in pistachios this year on top of what was already a light crop. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩'𝙨 𝙖 𝙜𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙝.

But here's the thing about pistachios: what you do in the next few weeks matters almost as much as what you do all next season. Postharvest is when your trees bank the nutrients they'll pull from next spring: bud differentiation, return bloom, nut set. 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿, 𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿.

For what it's worth, the pistachio blocks we've worked with the longest have averaged close to double the industry yield over the years we've tracked them.
