A PIRATE'S DREAM
Just for a quick second, calculate the possible piracy risk this implies: For $500-and-up per title, you can digitally stream perfect hi-res content to your own screening room. With no security around, amp up the soundtrack and position those digital cameras perfectly -- no audience interruption, no sound issues, no ups and no extras. So studios..... adopt this screening room strategy at your own risk. My guess: more pirated first-release titles with perfect audio / video will soon be finding more homes on the Internet or Blue-ray. And who would be to blame for this? You're literally begging film pirates to set up shop. Sure, they'd be paying you for the privilege but the potential profitability of beating the studio's own disc or online release to market. Like letting the fox into the chicken coup and handing them a camera and fries.
Red Carpet Home Cinema, a new service from former Ticketmaster CEO Fred Rosen, lets you skip the multiplex and watch the newest movies in the comfort of your own home -- but with a special $15,000 streaming box and rental costs that run from $1,500 to $3,000, that convenience doesn't come cheap.
