There is a such thing called interview anxiety and it sometimes it affects the best of us. Despite being fully prepared, knowing that you’re qualified, there’s still the anxiety that comes with the interview process. Especially if you’ve been on multiple interviews and don’t feel like they’re anywhere it can be very demoralizing. Despite it all the interview is your opportunity to show what you’re capable of, you’ve made it past the initial screening process. We want to list a few things you can try to do overcome your interview anxiety.
1) Practice possible interview questions. The common one being tell me about yourself? We will get more into detail how to answer that question.
2) Mirror your responses
3) Research about the company
4) Ask questions about the company, what your role would be. Find buzzwords in their answers to bounce off and state your qualifications.
5) It is ok to state that you are a little nervous. It can both put yourself and the interviewer at ease and also can show that you really care about the job. Especially if it’s a panel interview.
6) Find Some Humor and Common Ground. If you can get the interviewer open up, to laugh a little bit. then it can be deescalate the tension you may faces
7) Be Yourself. Let your personality shine through.
8) Know who you’re meeting. If it’s a one on one interview or panel interview, ask because you should know what type of situation you’re waking into and an employer should be transparent on what type of interview it is. If you know who you’re meeting you can perhaps find their linked in information out to better understand what they do for the company.
9) Plan what you’re wearing. Know how to dress for the Interview. Mirror what they’re wearing as well.
10) Breathe and Relax. I know that sounds tough but controlling your breathing Can help control your anxiety.
