As more and more companies rely on program to filter the onslaught of resumes, it's good to be aware of how they work and what you can do to prevent yourself from getting filtered out...

Dear Lifehacker, I heard that a lot of companies use software to w**d out "good" from "bad" resumes. How do those systems work, and is there anything I can do to improve my chances of my resume getting through the system and into the hands of a real person?

If you are changing careers, how can you leverage your past career to your best advantage in your new career? In this interactive workshop, you'll explore the rules of negotiation, learn how to navigate the negotiation process, as well as get answers to some common negotiation questions. You'll gain a better understanding of the types of questions you should be asking for during a salary negotiation, what factors you should consider during negotiation, and ways to negotiate effectively as a new employee or mid-career employee. Christine Kelly, Ph.D., was a communication professor for 16 years before joining the UCI Career Center as a career consultant for graduate students.
