Active duty Soldiers fall into two general categories: enlisted personnel and Officers. Enlisted Soldiers are the backbone of the U.S. Each has his or her own specialized training and fills a role within his or her unit. Officers are the Army's leaders. They guide enlisted Soldiers during missions and provide the know-how and expertise to get the job done. Active duty service terms typically last
three to six years. . ARMY RESERVE--SERVING WHEN NEEDED
Being in the Army Reserve allows you to pursue your civilian career or college education while you serve your community. You will spend ONE weekend a month in training and TWO weeks a year attending a Field Training Exercise (FTX). Soldiers in the Army Reserve may be called to Active Duty to provide their expertise. There are many career options available to enlisted Soldiers, from intelligence, combat support and legal enforcement to arts and media, computers and technology, health care and aviation. An enlisted Soldier’s rank can range from Private to Sergeant Major of the Army. Enlisted Soldiers work together with officers to achieve mission success even in the harshest conditions. To become an enlisted Soldier in the U.S. Army, you must be:
A U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
17-34 years old
In good physical condition
In good moral standing
A high school graduate or equivalent
