Helping you on this journey through the world of dentistry. If you have not taken this serously before now, you should. Kansas and MO are really cracking down on dentist paying dental workers/ temps as 1099 contract workers. Very heavy fines are coming your way.
“Fraud Awareness Month, the Kansas Department of Labor (KDOL) is emphasizing the importance of proper worker classification. Misclassifying employees as independent contractors—whether intentional or unintentional… comes with significant penalties and fines for employers.
KDOL’s Unemployment Insurance Tax/Employer division is committed to preventing, detecting, and investigating worker misclassification. Employers are encouraged to review their classification practices to ensure compliance with state and federal laws.
Worker misclassification is not just an administrative error—it is a serious issue that deprives workers of critical protections and places law-abiding businesses at a disadvantage,” said Kansas Labor Secretary Amber Shultz. “Intentional misclassification constitutes tax and insurance evasion, and KDOL will continue working diligently to hold non-compliant employers accountable.”
KDOL are asking workers to report such actions to them directly for investigation. Using Apps or any dental temp service who is telling you paying temps via 1099 is fine- does not have your best interest.
Feel free to contact me with any questions. My company takes care of paying our temps via W2 pay and we handle all IRS matters and tax filings. We do have your best interest in mind.
