Companies focused on innovation include leaders who understand the importance of an employee-driven culture.

This strategy has led to the rise of "intrapreneurship," or the practice of empowering employees to generate new ideas, giving employees the freedom and necessary resources for implementation.

For some companies, moving away from a traditional hierarchical structure -- top-down decision-making -- may be more challenging than for others.

Here are our three suggestions to help implement intrapreneurship in your company:

1. Identify decision-making roles in the company and determine a process to hold team members accountable for their decisions. That also includes how to troubleshoot or mentor staff as they hone their decision-making skills. You need to also clarify that certain decisions cannot or will not be delegated.

2. Establish or develop decision principles that serve as a guide rather than dictating a set of rules for employees to adhere to with their decision-making.

3. Take intentional steps to empower your team. Stagger the transition of responsibilities to build confidence in decision-making and recognize that delegating specific responsibilities can lead to greater organizational success in the long term.

You may have created countless job descriptions that stipulate a bachelor’s degree – or higher – is preferred, perhaps even required. But did you know you may also be holding yourself back in finding the top-tier talent that you’re seeking? Especially in this (still) tight job market – you may want to be a bit more flexible when you review resumes that include seemingly proven experience without that college degree.

How can you be sure a candidate is truly going to serve as an asset to your team? Place more emphasis on hiring for a candidate's specific skills or expertise. Ask detailed situational questions during an initial phone interview to determine if they have a real-world track record of success. If you need a team member who possesses more formal training, consider asking about apprenticeships, internships, or other accredited training programs that could meet your expectations.

We’ve all heard and read endless stories about Millenials, Gen Z, and now even the upcoming Generation Alpha.

But what happened to the Gen X-ers of the workforce? This (some say) overlooked generation was born roughly between 1965 and 1979, brims with top-tier talent, and brings more to the table than what you may have heard.

How do you attract these under-the-radar stars? We recommend three strategies.

1. Include them on special committees/task forces. Fiercely independent and loyal but speaking up when they feel an issue needs to be addressed, Gen X-ers are trusted and honest employees. You’ll know where you stand with them -- so include them when you are implementing new company initiatives. This will help you course-correct if the initiatives veer off track.

2. Tap into their flexibility and adaptability. This generation has experienced a unique balance of the online and offline world, switching between both fairly easily. They can bridge the gap and support others who may be struggling with the latest digital technology, remembering what it was like to take notes using pen and paper, not a phone app.

3. Mentorship. Gen-Xers can also serve as excellent role models for team members who are new in the workplace. It was not too long ago that they were looking for someone to help them navigate a delicate meeting with a client or grasp the nuances of a company's culture and workplace environment. They'll offer genuine and empathetic support to help inexperienced staff thrive within your company.

Pay transparency. It's on everyone's mind. Surveys show that workers want to know about a job's salary range. In fact, one survey found that 41% of respondents reported a negative experience when discussing pay with an employer. And a majority of respondents, 68%, said they would leave their current employer for one that is more open about salaries.

So why should you be more transparent with salary ranges?

Consider that you may attract more top talent because they will rest assured their work will be rewarded. Candidates are also more likely to apply for a role that includes a salary range.

We also have found that posting a salary range can save you time during a candidate search. You will avoid dealing with candidates who are not aligned with your salary requirements.

And pay transparency will instill trust with a potential new team member, plus the candidate may encounter a better overall recruiting experience with your company. You have provided this key information about the position, and you strived to have an open, honest conversation about the salary -- which will keep you at the top of a preferred candidate's list.

According to a recent study, 61% of respondents over the age of 45 reported having seen or experienced age discrimination in their careers. This type of discrimination sometimes starts during the hiring process and can also negatively affect your company's culture and reputation.

Here are our 3 tips for avoiding age discrimination when hiring top talent.

1. Can a candidate really be overqualified? Instead of seeing that someone has too much experience, determine how their expertise can enhance your team. It's possible this person led teams for many years and may be ready -- and have the flexibility and confidence -- to be a valued team member instead.

2. Be sure your job descriptions are inclusive, and avoid using terms that suggest you prefer a younger candidate. Do you use words such as "digital native," "high energy," or even "recent college grad?" Focus instead on the required or preferred skills needed for success in the position. If you truly want to grow your team (and ultimately your company), you should have training in place to help new candidates learn unfamiliar software. You can also identify any transferrable skills the candidate may have that would benefit your team's work.

3. Discuss age diversity when you conduct diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training. Many times we focus on gender and culture DEI -- but learning how to prevent ageism is just as important to review with your team. These efforts will cultivate a company culture that will set you apart from other companies recruiting hard-to-find quality top talent.

Did you know that unproductive meetings cost companies more than $37 billion each year? And with many meetings held online due to remote/hybrid workplaces, gathering far-flung team members to endure yet another unneeded meeting can be a source of frustration and, frankly, a waste of everyone's time.

However, meetings -- whether remote or not -- are still essential for the productivity of any company.

Here are our five tips to help you run more effective meetings.

1. Ensure the meeting is necessary. Yes, we have heard this before: could this have been discussed/reviewed in an email? Or does the issue require interactive discussion to make an informed decision to develop the next steps? Could you include the information that needs to be shared during a previously scheduled meeting?

2. Only invite those who absolutely need to be included. If individuals do not have anything to contribute to or learn from the meeting, their time can be best spent elsewhere.

3. Create an agenda and send it to your team before the meeting. This will keep everyone on task and move the meeting along in a timely manner. In addition, if brainstorming or ideas/solutions need to be brought to the meeting, team members can prepare beforehand and bring their suggestions.

4. Record the meeting or take notes, then share them with attendees afterward. This will allow others to refer to the notes if they have questions/clarifications and share with those who may need to have the information.

5. Determine action items. Meetings should include the next steps to propel progress. Assign the items to attendees and establish deadlines for the steps to be accomplished.

With International Women's Day this week, we wanted to take a moment to celebrate our rockstar Business Development Manager - Kansas City Metro/President Club Member Megan Neer. We are grateful for her leadership within LSI, especially as she keeps extremely busy helping companies find staffing solutions. Here, she shares her insight on how you can improve your time management skills.

"I have been with LSI for almost four years, started as a recruiter, and transitioned into sales shortly after. I am honored to have made and grown professional relationships throughout this career thus far.

"I am excited to work for a company that allows me to change many lives of business owners and employees with our service and impact on staff. I am thrilled to get to contribute to a forward-thinking and fast-moving company.

"My territory at LSI has grown rapidly, and that has made time management an essential function in my everyday routine. Time management is something I've had to make a priority to be successful, especially in sales. By doing this, I've set aside designated times to focus on the big picture and put my efforts into my work.

"Prioritizing my tasks, it's allowed me to achieve my goals faster. Of course, teamwork makes the dream work, and none of it would be achievable without my great coworkers helping me to make those time blocks possible."

The current job market contains more jobs than candidates, and you may be struggling to capture and keep top-tier talent. Have you thought about whether you are overselling your open job positions?

In fact, a recent survey of more than 2,500 workers showed that nearly three-quarters of respondents had started jobs, only to find that the position was very different than what they had been led to believe.

Avoid over-promising the candidate different aspects of the job, such as a better work environment compared to where they are now. How do you know it will be better? Don't offer this unless you can give specific examples.

And make sure that your HR manager or the candidate's future manager doesn't discuss opportunities to help them grow -- unless they can tell them exactly what these opportunities will be as the candidate successfully progresses at your company.

When an employer overpromises, a just-hired employee will become disheartened, and your company will gain an untrustworthy reputation. Plus, this new team member may quit shortly after they are hired (6 months is usually the breaking point for a disappointed team member), and you will need to start the hiring process over again - spending more time and money than you had planned.

We have all heard about or maybe experienced a toxic work environment. But as an employer, how can you prevent toxicity from overtaking your company? Consider the comments that your staff provides during an exit interview.

Whatever the reasons an exiting staff member gives, HR staff, working with company leadership, must investigate and determine whether policies should be adjusted and/or employees should receive emotional intelligence training or other important initiatives such as diversity and inclusion should be reviewed and updated.

Preserving your company’s stellar reputation should always be top of mind. The time you invest in your employees will help keep your company from slipping into toxicity. You will attract higher-quality professionals, and your efforts will ultimately boost your bottom line.

Turn to our expert recruiters to advise you on how to conduct effective exit interviews.

Giving feedback to your staff should be a regular part of growing and retaining your team members. But be sure to follow best practices so the culture of feedback is positive. Here are our suggestions.

1. Give clear and reasonable expectations to your employees before a project or task begins.

2. Don't save your feedback for your employees' quarterly reviews. Feedback should be a part of your day-to-day work environment. Feeling comfortable giving constructive feedback keeps your staff productive and moves the company forward.

3. Perform a self-review. Determine if your expectations are in line with your employees' abilities. In addition, encourage your employees to feel comfortable addressing any concerns they may have about you, their colleagues, or the company in general.

4. Avoid giving emotional feedback. If you aren't in the proper frame of mind to talk with your employee about their performance, take a few minutes before addressing the situation.

5. Be consistent in your feedback to all employees -- use uniform criteria, talk with employees at regular intervals, and be specific about what has been done correctly and what needs a bit more work.
