With forecasted low temperatures, the Village of Lawton would like to remind residents to take precautions to prevent frozen water pipes.

When temperatures drop significantly, water pipes—especially those located along outside walls, in crawl spaces, basements, or unheated areas—are at increased risk of freezing. Frozen pipes can burst and cause significant damage to homes and personal property.

To help prevent freezing, residents may consider allowing a small, steady trickle of water to run from faucets connected to vulnerable pipes during periods of extreme cold.

If you anticipate needing to run water continuously due to the risk of frozen pipes, please contact the Village of Lawton. We ask that you notify us in advance or as soon as possible so we are aware of the situation and can make appropriate adjustments to your water bill, if necessary.

Additional cold-weather tips include:
• Keeping cabinet doors open under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Sealing drafts near pipes and exterior walls
• Maintaining consistent indoor temperatures, even when away from home

If you have questions, concerns, or believe your home may be at higher risk due to pipe location, please contact the Village Office.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping us protect the community’s water system during extreme winter conditions.

🎃 Halloween Safety Reminder
As our community heads out for trick-or-treating tonight, we encourage everyone to stay alert and stay safe! Please be extra cautious while walking or driving through town, as traffic will be heavier than usual due to the MHSAA Football Playoffs game taking place at the high school this evening. Drivers—slow down, watch for pedestrians, and avoid distractions. Parents and kids—carry flashlights or glow sticks, use crosswalks, and stick to well-lit areas. Let’s all do our part to make it a fun and safe Halloween night for everyone!

It’s that time of the year again- leaf pickup is coming soon!

When the leaves start to fall, please remember:
-place leaves at the curb, not in the street
-do not include grass, sticks, or other debris — leaves only!

Keeping leaves out of the roadway helps prevent clogged storm drains and keeps our streets safe and clean.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Lawton looking great this fall! 🍁 🍂
