Sam’s story reminds me why we do what we do.
It is so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day — the schedules, the placements, the operations. But then someone like Sam DeJesus comes along and reminds you that this work is about people. It is about potential. It is about seeing something in someone and helping them see it too.
Sam never asked for special treatment. He never expected anything to be handed to him. He just kept showing up — ready, willing, and open to whatever came next. He joined Abacus back in 2018 as a temp forklift operator. No big expectations — just a guy ready to work. From day one, Sam showed up with a strong work ethic, a great attitude, and a quiet determination to grow. Every assignment, he gave it his all. When we launched our deployment project team, Sam did not hesitate. His first travel assignment was Hazleton, PA — right in the middle of COVID. That moment said everything about who he is. He stepped up when it mattered most.
From there, he leaned into the travel opportunities. He became a regular on projects across multiple states, growing not just as an operator but as a leader. He was dependable, adaptable, and always willing to go where the work was needed. Even after moving away from York — his longtime home base — Sam stayed in touch. He would reach out often, asking for feedback, guidance, and ways to improve. He wanted to learn. He wanted to lead. Eventually, Sam moved to Nevada, but that didn’t change a thing. He kept checking in, asking about leadership roles, looking for ways to grow. He was hungry for more.
One day, a new opportunity came up in Las Vegas with a brand-new customer. I did not have to think twice. Sam was the one.
Now, he is leading that market. He is the face of Abacus in Vegas. And I could not be prouder.
Watching Sam grow has been one of the most rewarding parts of my job. Not because of the titles or the promotions, but because of the person he has become. He has built trust, earned respect, and led by example. And he has done it all with quiet strength and a deep sense of purpose.
When I think about the kind of leaders we want to develop — the kind of culture we want to build — Sam is it. He is proof that when you invest in people, when you stay connected, when you lead with heart, incredible things happen.
To me, this is not just a success story. It is a reminder that every placement has the potential to be the start of something bigger. That every conversation, every check-in, every opportunity matters. Sam did not just take a job. He built a career, a reputation, and a lasting impact. We are lucky to be part of his story.
Not just a job, but a journey. Not just a placement, but a partnership. Sam did not just build a career. He is building his legacy. And we are better because of it.
