GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Skilled work in the diagnosis, repair, maintenance and modification of City vehicles and equipment including the Bascule Bridge and dumpsters. Repairs, inspects, and overhauls the City’s vehicular fleet and equipment such as automobiles, trucks, and specialized gasoline-powered and diesel-powered equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Considerable knowledge of methods and procedures used in vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair (including electrical systems).

• Basic knowledge of the workings of and required maintenance of a hydraulically operated bascule bridge.

• Skill in the use of tools, machines, and testing instruments of the mechanic’s trade.

• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and make repairs.

• Sufficient welding and fabricating ability to repair dumpsters and other basic metal fitting tasks.

CAD experience, CNC programming experience, strong Microsoft Office skills, outstanding communication skills, work well with others in a team environment, self-motivated, able to take and follow and give directions, flexible work schedule (not report to a clock, but to completing tasks) ability to work in a fast paced environment, comfortable working on the shop floor with the operators/set-people (more time for this than behind a desk), comfortable with assisting and directing machine repairs and maintenance, would like the right person to be salaried with the minimum hrs being 45 + a week under normal conditions.
