Navy and Marine Plane Captains

Navy and Marine Plane Captains A place for those of us who worked as Plane Captains in the Navy or USMC to share photos, thoughts, and experiences.

I created the page for those of us who worked as Plane Captains in the US Navy and USMC. It is a difficult job and requires a lot of work to be qualified as a Plane Captain. Beginning as a 2nd Mech it takes about a year to qualify. During that year the 2nd Mech will be carrying tons of tie down chains and chocks, will walk wings, ride brakes, wash aircraft, crawl intakes, check and add engine flui

ds, learn launch signals, tow aircraft, strap in the pilot and navigator, and even man the cockpit during a high power check. After the Line Chief is confident he or she can do the job they will be designated Plane Captain where he or she will continue to do the same work and also do launch signals. It is an under rated and over worked job in the Navy but it is also a job to be very proud of.

I want to give thanks for all those who worked as plane captains and who have registered for this page. We all worked hard and we were important.

I didn't know it then but looking back at the years I wouldn't have changed a thing.

Happy Veterans Day to all my fellow Plane Captains.
