He was making $2.10 an hour at Ford Motor Company. He walked away from it to make $1.65 an hour learning to weld.

His dad told him straight up. Learn how to weld and I'll get you in. So he quit the better paying job, took the pay cut, and spent four nights a week in school to become an ironworker.

That's the kind of commitment this trade has always asked for. Not because the money was better on day one, but because what came after it was worth it.
