🚨 Coders and auditors, just because you've been using the same diagnosis code for years doesn't mean it's still the right one!

The FY 2027 ICD-10-CM updates officially took effect on October 1st, bringing:

📌 190 new codes
📌 30 deleted codes
📌 4 revised codes

What happens when your highest-performing physician becomes your biggest compliance outlier?

Higher E/M levels, increased procedure volume, or unusual modifier usage might raise a red flag, but does that automatically mean something is wrong? Not necessarily!

An outlier isn't proof of a compliance issue. It's an opportunity to ask better questions, dig into the documentation, and understand what's driving the numbers.

Before assuming there's a problem, consider patient complexity, specialty differences, referral patterns, and medical necessity.

Because the goal of an audit isn't to make every physician look the same. It's to make sure the documentation supports the services reported.
