What does a job coach do?
The job coach assist the individual and the business during the early employment. They help the individual to learn how to do the job duties and overcome any challenges the employee may have. By accompanying the individual to work, the job coach can provide further instruction or help facilitate reasonable accommodation for the employee.
Will the job coach always be there with the employee?
The job coach will be coming to work with the employee anywhere from 1 to 3 months. They will fade out as the individual learns how to successfully do the job. The time varies for each employee and for each job. If the employee has challenges beyond this time, the job coach can come in for a shift to assist the employee in overcoming the challenge. The job coach will check in with the employer every month for the first year and every three months beyond that.
What are reasonable accommodations?
Reasonable accommodations are adjustments that facilitate efficient completion of the job through the business and job coach. Accommodations can include a checklist or natural cue, job restructuring, adjustment of hours, and assistive technology. Most accommodations are low cost and simple to implement. They are also subtle and not a distraction to other employees or customers
