As America celebrates 2️⃣5️⃣0️⃣ years of independence, we proudly reflect on the values that have defined our nation since 1776—freedom, courage, sacrifice, and service.

For generations, sheriffs have stood as the oldest elected law enforcement office in the United States, committed to protecting the communities they serve. Here in Onslow County, we are honored to continue that tradition every day by safeguarding our citizens, supporting our community, and upholding the Constitution.

This milestone is not only a celebration of our nation's history but also a reminder of the responsibility we share to preserve the freedoms entrusted to us for future generations.

Happy Independence Day Onslow County!
This is a historic birthday for our country which turns 250 years old today. Make sure to swing by Onslow Pines Park to celebrate at the Onslow County Parks and Recreation Freedom Fest event.
As a reminder, most County offices will be closed Monday and reopen Tuesday, July 7.

Most Onslow County offices and operations will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Monday, July 6, 2026, in observance of Independence Day. The Onslow County Landfill and Convenience Sites will operate as normal on Friday July 3 but will be closed Saturday, July 4 through Monday, July 6. The landfill will reopen Tuesday, July 3 and all convenience sites will reopen Wednesday, July 8 at 8AM.

Onslow County Public Library branches and the Onslow County Museum will also be closed from July 3- July 6. Onslow County Department of Social Services will be closed Friday and Monday, but if you need to make a report of child or elder abuse, neglect, exploitation, or dependency you can call the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office at 910 455-3113 and ask for the on-call social worker.

The Onslow County Sheriff's Office and Onslow County Emergency Services will continue to operate for emergency services calls. The Sheriff’s Office Records Unit will be closed July 3-6. Offices will reopen Tuesday, July 7.

July 4 Road Closure: On July 4 Onslow Pines Road will be closed at the intersection of Highway 53 from 8:30PM-11PM. The road closure is necessary for traffic control for the Annual Freedom Festival which features live music, amusements, food trucks, vendors, and fireworks. Area residents will retain limited access during this time. The festival takes place at Onslow Pines Park from 3PM-9PM on July 4. At 9PM fireworks conclude the event.

☑️Trams start running at 3:30 PM.
☑️Gates open at 4 PM.
☑️DoW ID-card holders who are US citizens and age 18 and older may each es**rt up to 5 guests without prior registration.
