What a night at the Mississippi Mud Monsters Military Appreciation Night!

The WFWMS team had a great time last Friday celebrating Mississippi’s service members, veterans, and military families while connecting with our community and local partners.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to see us, and a special thank you to the Mississippi Mud Monsters for making military appreciation such a big part of the night. We were proud to be there and help make it a great evening!

Meet Michael McGee, Career Technical Specialist with Work for Warriors Mississippi!

Michael has been part of the military community for more than 40 years and brings a passion for serving service members, veterans, and their families to his role every day. Get to know Michael!

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a bi-vocational pastor and have served at First Baptist Church of Stringer for 20+ years. I have been married to my wife, LaTonya, for 39 years. We have four adult children and five grandchildren!

What is your role with WFWMS?
I am the Career Technical Specialist.

What inspired you to join WFWMS?
The opportunity came unexpectedly. I didn't realize my first hour-long phone call about WFWMS was actually my interview! I was immediately captivated by the opportunity to be part of something new. Today, I am grateful to give back to a military community that has been my family for more than 40 years. It wasn't just a good thing. It was and is a God thing.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
Traveling, spending time with family, church, and serving veteran and community organizations.

What is your favorite part of helping our military community?
Helping others realize their God-given potential and connecting them with resources to pursue their goals and dreams.

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
I would love to cruise the Mediterranean, especially Greece and Italy.

What's one piece of career advice you always share?
“Your resume is only as good as the person who shows up to the job. Set high expectations, then back up everything you said.”

What advice would you give someone transitioning to civilian employment?
Find a great company, get your foot in the door, show your potential, continue building your credentials, and never stop learning.

What can't you start your day without?
Prayer and two large cups of coffee!

Tammy Clinton visited two Mississippi National Guard units, the 3656th Maintenance Company and the 155th BDE HHC, to meet new personnel and reconnect with service members she has previously assisted.

Unit visits are a great opportunity to stay connected with our military community, build relationships with leadership, and make sure service members and their families know WFWMS is here as a resource for their career and employment needs.

Theresa Neal, Employment Coordinator, and Michael McGee, Career Technical Specialist, are representing Work for Warriors Mississippi at the Accelerate Mississippi Horizons Conference in Flowood!

As an exhibitor, WFWMS has the opportunity to connect with workforce professionals, employers, educators, and community partners from across the state while sharing how our program supports Mississippi’s service members, veterans, and their families.
