One of the most important responsibilities of WCESD #3 (Hutto Fire Rescue) is being accountable the residents in our District who fund our services.

As a local government entity, we are committed to making financial and operational information available to the public. From budgets and audits to contracts and board meetings, we believe our community should have easy access to information about how decisions are made and how taxpayer dollars are used.

That commitment has earned WCESD #3 five Transparency Stars from the Texas Comptroller in the following areas:

⭐ Traditional Finances
⭐ Open Government & Compliance
⭐ Debt Obligations
⭐ Contracts & Procurement
⭐ Public Pensions

Transparency helps build trust, promotes accountability, and ensures our community can stay informed about the fire and emergency services that protect them every day.

Yesterday, we shared who Williamson County Emergency Services District #3 (Hutto Fire Rescue) is. Today, we’re answering another common question: Where does WCESD #3 provide service? 🚒

We proudly serve more than 65,000 people across 63 square miles. Our district includes all of the City of Hutto as well as the surrounding areas outside of Hutto city limits.

We currently operate four strategically located fire stations throughout our district, along with a headquarters facility that supports day-to-day operations.

In addition, we are already planning two future fire stations in the following locations to keep pace with the continued growth of our community:
📍Near the intersection of N FM 1660/Main Hippo Drive, by the Hutto Ninth Grade Center.
📍Near County Road 132 and the future “Megasite”.

For more than 25 years, the firefighters at Hutto Fire Rescue have served our community so consistently and well that many people have never had a reason to ask who is providing those services. 🚒

This is the first of a series of informational posts we'll be sharing to help our community better understand who we are, and we’re starting with the basics: What is Williamson County Emergency Services District #3?

Williamson County Emergency Services District #3 (WCESD #3), best known as Hutto Fire Rescue, is the local government entity responsible for providing fire protection and emergency services to Hutto and surrounding areas. WCESD #3 was established in 2000 after voters approved its creation and is not affiliated with the City of Hutto.

As a political subdivision of the State of Texas, WCESD #3 has proudly provided all-hazards emergency response and excellent service to the Hutto community.

For those asking whether the City can legally do what they are attempting to do regarding fire services:

Under Texas Health & Safety Code § 775.022, a municipality must demonstrate that any services it plans to provide will meet or exceed the current level of service already being provided by the Emergency Services District. The law specifically defines “level of service” as the location, deployment, and response time of fire and EMS resources responding to emergencies.

That means the City must prove it can provide equal or better emergency response coverage before making these changes.
What continues to raise questions for many residents and firefighters is the location of this proposed city-run station. The station is not located near existing residential areas, despite there being multiple undeveloped lots closer to where residents actually live and where future growth is occurring.

We still have not been given a clear explanation as to why this location was chosen or why a separate city-run station is necessary in the first place.

These decisions impact public safety, response times, and taxpayer dollars. Residents deserve transparency and answers.
