Early Thursday morning, my daughter, her husband, and their three little ones escaped their burning home with only a handful of belongings. Had my son‑in‑law not awakened around 3 a.m., this could be a very different message.

They are safe — and for that we are deeply grateful — but they’ve lost nearly everything. They now have to rebuild from scratch: clothes, shoes, household items, and all the essentials a young family needs.
