A better job search starts before you submit the first application.

It starts with knowing what you’re actually looking for.

What schedule works with your life? How far are you willing to commute? What matters enough that you won’t compromise on it? And where are you open to learning something new?

You don’t need every detail of your career figured out.

But knowing your priorities makes it much easier to recognize an opportunity that could be a genuinely good fit instead of applying to everything and hoping something sticks.

Save this before your next job search and tell us: what’s your biggest non-negotiable in a new job?

There can be a lot of pressure to find the “perfect” job.

But your next opportunity doesn’t have to answer every question about your future.

Maybe it gives you a better schedule. Maybe it helps you learn a new skill. Maybe it gets you into an industry you’ve wanted to explore. Or maybe it simply gives you the fresh start you need right now.

A good career is often built one step at a time.

If you’ve been putting off your job search because you’re not sure what your long-term plan looks like, start with a simpler question:

What would make your next step a better one?

Foothills Employment can help you explore opportunities in our local community and see what might fit.

Sometimes looking for a new job isn’t about escaping a bad situation.

Sometimes you’re simply ready for something different.

More opportunity.
A schedule that fits your life better.
A shorter commute.
A chance to learn something new.
A workplace that feels like a better fit.

You don’t need a dramatic reason to explore what’s next.

If you’ve been wondering what other opportunities are out there, that curiosity might be worth listening to.

Your next chapter can start before you’re desperate for a change.

You see a job you’re interested in…but then you start reading the qualifications.

“I don’t have enough experience.”

Before you close that application, remember: experience isn’t the only thing you bring to the table.

Employers are also looking for people who are dependable, willing to learn, communicate well, work with others, and take pride in what they do.

The key is learning how to communicate those strengths.

Instead of only listing your previous jobs, think about what each experience taught you. What problems did you solve? What responsibilities did people trust you with? What skills could you bring into a new workplace?

You may be more qualified than you’re giving yourself credit for.

Don’t reject yourself before an employer gets the chance to consider you.

An interview doesn’t have to be perfect to go well, but a little preparation can make a big difference.

Here are three common mistakes to avoid:

1. Showing up unprepared.
Take a few minutes to learn about the company and review the position before your interview. Knowing what you’re applying for shows genuine interest.

2. Giving one-word answers.
Don’t be afraid to tell a story! Give examples of your experience, how you’ve handled challenges, or what you’ve learned in previous roles.

3. Forgetting to ask questions.
An interview goes both ways. Ask about the team, schedule, expectations, or what success looks like in the position. It shows you’re thinking seriously about whether the job is right for you.

You don’t need all the “perfect” answers. Be prepared, be yourself, and show that you’re ready to learn.

Save this before your next interview!

I almost didn’t apply…

Maybe you’ve said it before.

“I probably don’t have enough experience.”

“There are probably more qualified applicants.”

“I’m not sure I’m ready for something new.”

“I’ll look again later.”

It’s easy to talk yourself out of an opportunity before you ever give yourself a chance.

But you don’t have to check every box to be worth considering. Employers are looking at more than a list of qualifications, your reliability, willingness to learn, work ethic, and attitude matter, too.

And sometimes, the opportunity that feels like a stretch ends up being exactly the fresh start you needed.

So if you find a position that interests you, don’t reject yourself before the employer ever gets the chance to consider you.

Take the first step.

Update the resume. Submit the application. Have the conversation.

Your next opportunity has to start somewhere.

Maybe it starts with, “I almost didn’t apply.”

August can be a great time to start thinking about your next career move.

As summer winds down, many local employers are looking ahead to a busy fall and preparing their teams for increased demand. That can mean new opportunities for job seekers who start looking now.

If you’ve been thinking about making a change, don’t wait until you feel completely ready. Update your resume, think about what you want from your next role, and start exploring what’s available.

You don’t have to navigate the job search alone, either. Foothills Employment can help connect you with local employers and opportunities that match your experience and goals.

A fresh start this fall might begin with one application today.
