What do you want MORE of in your next job?

More stability?

More responsibility?

Then ask what you want LESS of.

Less commuting?

Less schedule uncertainty?

Less feeling stuck?

You don’t need your entire career mapped out to make a good next decision.

Sometimes knowing what you want more of—and less of—is enough to point you in a better direction.

Getting the interview can feel exciting, and then the nerves kick in.

Instead of trying to prepare for every possible question, give yourself a few things to focus on.

Know what the position involves.

Decide which strengths and experiences you want the employer to remember.

Prepare a thoughtful question.

And practice explaining why the opportunity interests you without trying to memorize a “perfect” answer.

Most importantly, remember this:

They invited you for a reason.

Your job isn’t to become a different person for the interview. It’s to help them understand what you could bring to the team.

A job can sound great in a posting and still not be the right fit for your everyday life.

Before you apply, or before you say yes, picture what the opportunity would actually look like on a normal Tuesday.

Can you make the schedule work consistently?

Is the commute realistic five days a week?

Will you learn something, gain experience, or move closer to a goal that matters to you?

And six months from now, what would make you glad you took the job?

Those questions can help you look beyond the title and focus on the fit.
