I used to believe that if you were good enough at your job, someone would notice and hand you what you deserved.

After 27 years of recruiting, I’ve learned that, unfortunately, that’s not how it works.

Visibility is information (not arrogance) and people who don’t advocate for themselves are often overlooked.

This question shows up in interviews – usually masked as something else - and most people don’t have a realistic answer because it’s not something they’ve sat around contemplating.

This is looking for what you’ve genuinely learned from experience – or whether you’re still operating on the same assumptions you had when you started your career. I sure hope not!

So I’ll ask you the same thing I’d ask a job seeker. What is your revelation about work? Good or bad.
