Fireworks will ignite the sky, and country tunes will set the stage for Houston’s annual patriotic celebration, US Family Health Plan Freedom Over Texas from 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. on Monday, July 4 at Eleanor Tinsley Park on Buffalo Bayou (along Allen Parkway). Darius Rucker, former Hootie & the Blowfish lead singer and current country superstar will headline the annual event on the US Family Health Plan Stage that will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display.Joining Rucker on the main stage will be Houston favorites The Suffers showcasing their signature fusion of rock ‘n roll and “Gulf Coast Soul” and contemporary country artist Brooke Eden, a Florida native and Rucker tour regular. learn more

Be sure to stay for the finale of 1812 Overture, complete with booming cannons, which will be followed by the fireworks spectacular provided by Miller Theatre Advisory Board. Open seating will be available on the hill while free tickets will also be available while they last for the covered seating area. Celebrating America’s Independence


July 4thCelebrate the 4th of July at one of the many events in the Houston area and celebrate American’s birthday in style!
• If you’re looking for food, drinks and a good time close to home, La Centerra’s BIG Backyard Barbecue in Cinco Ranch is the place for you! Celebrations kick off at 5:30 p.m. and include live music, fireworks, and various food and beverages on Restaurant Row.
For those who are looking for a unique and classical evening, we suggest the Houston Symphony’s “A Star-Spangled Salute,” led by Michael Krajewski. The annual event begins at 8:30 p.m. at Miller Outdoor Theater and concludes with a magnificent fireworks display. For tickets and more information visit, www.houstonsymphony.org/calendar.
• Houston will set the stage for an extraordinary patriotic celebration at Mayor Annise Parker’s official Fourth of July event, Southwest Airlines Freedom Over Texas featuring concert appearances by stars Billy Currington and Grammy Award winner Sara Evans sponsored by Reliant. Freedom Over Texas offers fun for all ages including the Walmart All American Kids Zone and a Bud Light Zone for adults. The event begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and lasts until the fireworks display finishes at about 10 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and free for children 5 and under.
