One of the worst career advice you’ll hear is: “Just fake it until you make it.”

Here’s why that’s risky.

Let’s say you claim experience with a tool you’ve never used. You get hired.

Now your client expects you to perform tasks based on that experience.

Instead of learning the role with confidence, you’re spending your time trying not to get caught.

The truth is, most clients don’t expect beginners to know everything.

They do expect honesty, willingness to learn, and the ability to follow instructions.

It’s better to be a beginner who is trainable than an “expert” who can’t deliver.

Build your career on real skills, not made-up credentials.

Not every rejection is failure. Sometimes, it’s redirection toward something more aligned for you.

Every VA started as someone unknown.

No testimonials. No experience. No confidence YET.

Maybe you’ll get ignored. Maybe you’ll get rejected.

But every application you send brings you one step closer to the client who will eventually say yes.

Don’t stop. Keep going.

Rooting for you.

Maybe this is your sign to try again.

Most aspiring VAs say this like it’s the end of the conversation.

But every experienced VA was once someone with zero experience too.

You don’t magically become qualified first.

You build experience by starting.

Here at VRA, our VAs are trained regularly, not just once, so you continue learning as you grow.

Your first VA application will probably be bad.
And that’s okay.

Your first client call might be awkward.
Your first interview might not go well.
Your first application might get ignored.

That’s normal.

The goal is not to be perfect immediately.
The goal is to get better every time you try.

One of the biggest mistakes aspiring VAs make is thinking they need to resign immediately before they even start applying.

You do not have to put yourself in survival mode just to begin.

A wiser transition for many people looks like this:
- keep your current job while learning skills
- start applying during your free time
- accept part-time or project-based work first
- build experience and confidence gradually
- save emergency funds before fully transitioning

Some people only resign after:
- landing a stable client
- replacing their current income
- building a few months of savings

Building a remote career does not have to be dramatic or reckless to be life-changing.

You are allowed to transition slowly. You are allowed to build carefully.
You are allowed to create stability while chasing something better.

A sustainable transition is still progress.

It’s not just about the finances.

Sometimes it’s:
• finally having time with family
• avoiding long commutes
• buying your own things
• helping with bills
• realizing you’re capable of more

Remote work is not just “online work” for many people.

For some, it’s a real second chance.

A lot of aspiring VAs think they’re “too late.”

Too late to shift careers.
Too late to learn.
Too late because someone younger is already doing it.

But clients are not looking for the youngest person online.
They’re looking for someone reliable, resourceful, and willing to learn.

That can still be you.
