A first job can change a young person's life.

Our Pathways 2 Employment program helps transitional youth develop the skills, experience, and confidence needed to prepare for employment and greater independence.

Learning how to communicate.

Showing up on time.

Completing a task.

Working with others.

Building confidence.

These aren't just job skills.

They're life skills.

There is no such thing as a boring day at AUI!

Our Day Program provides opportunities for participants to learn, interact, create, practice skills, explore interests, and stay active.

Some days may include life-skills activities.

Others might include art, gardening, recreation, community outings, educational activities, or a new hobby introduced by a volunteer.

The goal? Opportunity!

Because learning and discovering new interests shouldn't stop at any particular age or ability.

Sometimes inclusion begins with something as simple as the way we speak.

People with disabilities are people first.

They are friends.
Coworkers.
Neighbors.
Sons and daughters.
Artists.
Employees.
Volunteers.
Sports fans.
Gardeners.
Music lovers.
Comedians.
Dreamers.

A diagnosis is one piece of a person’s story.

It is never their entire identity.

Before seeing the disability, take the time to see the person.

MYTH VS. FACT: “THEY CAN’T WORK”

MYTH: People with intellectual and developmental disabilities aren’t able to work.

FACT: People with disabilities can be incredibly valuable, dedicated members of the workforce when given opportunity, training, and the right support.

At AUI, we believe meaningful work is about much more than a paycheck. It can build confidence, independence, friendships, skills, and a sense of purpose.

Don’t assume what someone can’t do.

Give them the opportunity to show you what they can do.
