As an update for all CHICAGO families:
First - thanks for your well wishes, and thank you for taking the time to be prepared. Thank you to our ombudsman Kalyn Kasten for all the information you’ve put out.
Second - here is the plan for manning onboard.
Tomorrow (Thursday) is a normal workday for us to finish hurricane preps. We will put down liberty early if the weather starts to get bad. Thursday’s duty section will be augmented with a few Sailors from another duty section. All of those Sailors have been notified. The duty section tomorrow should come prepared to keep the duty all the way through until Saturday morning. COB and I are looking forward to riding this out with you.
Friday, we will make an assessment based on the weather and if possible, will call in the normal duty section on Friday to have duty section turnover. This turnover will occur no earlier than 1200. If the weather is too bad, we will not call in the duty section and the Thursday duty section will keep the duty until Saturday. Friday is not a work day - if you are not on duty, do not come in. If you are not on duty, attempt to phone muster with your chief/LPO starting at 1600 on Friday. Officers - phone muster with the XO.
Saturday duty section turnover should occur at the normal time. Common sense applies. If TCCOR 1 is still in effect for some reason, do not just come in - reach out for further guidance.
For all Sailors - we are one of the few boats that are still in. After the hurricane is over, make sure your property is good, check in with your chief, and see how you can assist your neighborhood recover. Stay clear of any downed power lines. I’ve offered to squadron for us to be a pool of manpower assistance for families of submariners which are underway. Be ready to lend a helping hand.
For our families on the mainland - thank you for your thoughts and prayers. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us on this page, but please know that I expect disruption with power and communications - we will get back to you when we can. Thank you for your patience.
Go Bulls!
