Retail Merchants of Hawaii Retail Merchants of Hawaii (RMH) is a state-wide, not-for-profit trade association committed to the growth and development of the retailers in Hawaii.

Founded in 1901, Retail Merchants of Hawaii (RMH) is a state-wide, not-for-profit trade association committed to the growth and development of the retail industry in Hawaii. The RMH mission is to promote the welfare of the retail industry, to provide information and training to advance the interests of the retail industry, and to serve as an advocate for the retail industry in both the governmenta

l and the business communities. The retail industry is the largest single generator of general excise tax revenue and employs almost 20% of the workforce in the State of Hawaii. Because effective interaction with government is critical to business, RMH is recognized as the official representative of the retail industry in Hawaii.

We’re honored to highlight another amazing member of The Retail Merchants of Hawaii: Walmart!

With multiple locations across the islands, Walmart continues to serve our communities with convenience, affordability, and aloha. Their commitment to supporting local initiatives and providing everyday essentials has a big impact on both our residents and visitors alike.

This week we are shining a light on another great member, T&C Surf Designs!

Starting in 1971 from the vision of local shaper Craig Sugihara, T&C Surf Designs started as a humble surfboard shop in Pearl City, Oʻahu. What began as a small operation focused on hand-shaped boards quickly grew into a cornerstone of Hawaiian surf culture.

Over the decades, T&C expanded beyond boards, launching apparel and gear that captured the colorful, rebellious spirit of the islands. By the ’80s, T&C’s bold aesthetic was making waves far beyond the islands

Today, T&C Surf Designs operates multiple stores across Hawaiʻi, from Ka Makana Ali’i to Windward Mall, keeping its roots strong while supporting local surfers, artists, and events. All while continuing to handcraft surfboards right here in the islands.

A brand that continues to inspire generations — both in and out of the water.
