Sometimes finding a job opportunity starts with simply exploring your community!

Recently, EB was participating in a community Mapping Activity when he spotted Papa Murphy’s. Since he enjoys making pizza, he expressed interest in going inside to learn more about working there.

And we're so glad he did!

Not only was the business accepting applications, but the manager took the time to talk with EB about what working there looks like, from opening and preparing for the day to helping customers.

EB got to explore a workplace that matched his interests, ask questions, and learn more about the responsibilities. Best of all? He filled out and submitted an application himself!

This is why Mapping is such an important part of our Job Development services. It's not just about finding businesses that are hiring. It's about getting out into the community, discovering interests, exploring possibilities, and giving individuals an active voice in their employment journey.

We're proud of EB for taking the initiative and following through!

And a big thank-you to the team at Papa Murphy's for taking the time to welcome him and share more about their workplace.

A project worth celebrating! 🎉

Thanks to funding from Prosper Portland , we were able to make several major improvements to our Sustainable Cleaning Systems building:

✨ Install a new elevator
✨ Renovate and update our bathroom to make it ADA accessible
✨ Add decorative steel artwork to our windows, improving building safety while keeping the space welcoming

And even better? The entire project was completed on time AND under budget! 🙌

These improvements have made a tremendous difference for our building and day-to-day operations, and we are so appreciative of Prosper Portland's partnership and investment in our organization.

Projects like this may happen behind the scenes, but their impact is felt every day.

More than job searching - we build workplace skills.

Our client IN participated in hands-on training in a real work environment. At Dollar Tree, he practiced organizing merchandise by department, identifying misplaced items, improving attention to detail, and interacting with store staff.

We then visited Panda Express, where he completed a mock interview, introduced himself to the manager, and practiced answering interview questions while expressing his interest in joining the team.

At the end of each employer visit, we leave the client’s résumé and information about our employment program, helping build strong employer partnerships and creating meaningful employment opportunities.

The best part? Thanks to this preparation and employer engagement, the client has already secured a job interview! Every community-based experience builds confidence, strengthens workplace skills, and brings our clients one step closer to competitive, integrated employment. 💼👏🌟

As part of ongoing Job Development services, a workplace exploration tour was arranged at MOD Pizza in Cornelius with Brandon, the restaurant manager. The purpose of this activity was to provide the participant with direct exposure to a real work environment, increase vocational awareness, and strengthen engagement in the employment process.

During the tour, Brandon explained the restaurant’s workflow from beginning to end, including food storage and organization, sanitation procedures, kitchen safety, use of commercial equipment, pizza preparation, proper handling of pizzas in ovens exceeding 500°F, packaging procedures, and order preparation for customers. Safety practices and quality standards were emphasized throughout the tour.

The participant remained engaged during the visit, asked several questions about the job duties and pizza preparation process, and demonstrated genuine interest in learning about the position and workplace expectations.

Brandon indicated that he will keep the participant in mind should an appropriate employment opportunity become available in the future.

Following the visit, the participant shared that he really enjoyed the experience and commented that Brandon was “very nice.” Experiences like this play an important role in Job Development by increasing participant motivation, promoting engagement with the employment process, and helping build familiarity and confidence in competitive, integrated work environments.
