We regret to inform you that an altercation occurred in the break room today between Turkey (Senior EntrΓ©e Manager) and Chicken (Junior Protein Specialist) over the last serving of stuffing.

Summary of Events:

Turkey claimed "historical precedent" and "seniority rights" to the stuffing
Chicken argued this was "discriminatory based on size" and filed a formal complaint
Both parties are now in mandatory mediation with a side of cranberry sauce
HR Recommendations:
βœ… Implementing a "First Come, First Served" stuffing policy
βœ… Mandatory conflict resolution training (with gravy)
βœ… Installing a second stuffing station to prevent future incidents

Farley's revelation: Young Ford workers told him they need to work at Ford, Walmart, AND Amazon fulfillment centers just to make ends meetβ€”surviving on six hours of sleep while juggling three jobs.
His proposed solution? More trade schools. More apprenticeships. More training programs.
But here's what he's NOT addressing:
❌ Why doesn't a full-time job at Fordβ€”a company that made $10.4 billion in EBIT in 2023β€”pay enough to live on?
❌ Why have blue-collar wages stagnated for 20+ years while housing costs have skyrocketed?
❌ Why are healthcare and childcare costs now equivalent to a second mortgage?
❌ Why is the burden of poverty wages externalized onto workers and government assistance programs?
The problem isn't a shortage of workers willing to learn trades. The problem is that trade jobs no longer provide the economic security they once did.
Training more workers for jobs that don't pay a living wage isn't a solutionβ€”it's just creating more people who need three jobs.
Real solutions would include:
βœ… Wages indexed to local cost of living and inflation
βœ… Comprehensive healthcare coverage at no cost to workers and minimal dependent cost
βœ… Childcare support and housing assistance
βœ… Profit-sharing that gives workers a stake in company success
βœ… Work-life balance that doesn't require sacrificing sleep and family time
When a Fortune 500 company's entry-level workers need government assistance despite working full-time, that's not a labor shortage problemβ€”that's a wage problem.
It's time we stop asking "How do we find more workers?" and start asking "How do we make these jobs worth working?"
