A groundbreaking may look like the beginning of just another building, but it represents much more for Barren County.

Spec buildings give our community a speed-to-market advantage. When a company is ready to locate or expand, having industrial space already under development makes Barren County more competitive for projects that bring new investment and job opportunities.

BCEA partners with Scott, Murphy & Daniel on these projects. The developer constructs the building, and BCEA works to market and sell it. The first two spec buildings at South Cooper Industrial Park have already been successfully sold.

Spec Building #3 is the next step in continuing that momentum.

As of September 1, there are 274 active online job postings across 11 different industries in Barren County.

From retail and education to health care, manufacturing, transportation, professional services, and more, these numbers highlight the variety of opportunities available right here in our community.

Economic development is built on relationships, connections, and opportunities to tell Barren County’s story.

This morning, BCEA joined local leaders and guests from across several states for a visit with Dr. Mehmet Oz and Congressman Brett Guthrie.

Engagement with leaders beyond our community gives us an opportunity to strengthen relationships, increase awareness of Barren County, and build connections that can support future opportunities and continued economic growth.

What does this have to do with economic development?

At first glance, it's a groundbreaking for a new farmers market. But take a closer look at what this project can mean for our community.

A farmers market creates a place for local farmers, makers and small businesses to sell their products, reach new customers and grow. It creates another reason for people to gather, shop local and spend their dollars right here in Barren County.

And that's economic development, too.

It's not always a new industry or a major expansion. It's also supporting local entrepreneurs, investing in places people want to be and creating opportunities for our community to grow from within.

We were proud to bring together local leaders, our Board of Directors, project partners, and community members to celebrate another step forward for economic development in Barren County.

Projects like this are about being prepared for what comes next. By investing in speed-to-market industrial space, we’re positioning Barren County to compete for new investment and future job opportunities.

Today, we officially broke ground on Speculative Building #3 at South Cooper Industrial Park!

This 60,000-square-foot facility, with the ability to expand up to 240,000 square feet, represents another step forward in preparing Barren County for future investment, job creation, and continued economic growth.

Speculative buildings allow us to be ready when opportunity arrives by providing quality industrial space and helping Barren County remain competitive for companies looking for their next location.

We are grateful for the partnership of Barren County Government, the City of Glasgow, Scott, Murphy & Daniel, The Murphy Construction Group, our BCEA Board of Directors, and everyone who has played a role in moving this project forward.

Today, we broke ground. Next, we look forward to the day we welcome a new company to call this building home.
