PTF Consulting is supporting direct-hire Data Engineer opportunities in several international locations, including:

Naples, Italy
Stuttgart, Germany
Kaiserslautern, Germany

These roles support mission-driven data engineering work in fast-paced DoD environments, helping teams build, maintain, and operationalize data applications, pipelines, workflows, and analytic solutions.

We are looking for both Junior and Senior Data Engineers with experience in areas such as Python, SQL, Scala, R, reporting and analytics applications, structured and unstructured data, and collaborative technical environments.

Requirements include:

Active Secret clearance
U.S. citizenship
Valid U.S. passport
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field

Some of the best candidates do not interview neatly.

They may jump ahead, challenge the question, spot risks early, or answer the problem underneath the question.

And sometimes, that gets mistaken for being “too broad” or “not structured enough.”

But real work is not always neat either.

The better question is not, “Can this person give me the cleanest interview answer?”

It is: “How does this person think when the instructions are incomplete?”

That is where judgment shows up.

Give candidates realistic problems. Ask what they notice, what assumptions they would test, and what information they would need before making a decision.

Because the strongest hire may not be the smoothest interviewer.

They may be the person who sees what everyone else missed.
