A/B Schedule Information for Middle and High School
Revised 10/14/2020
During its regularly scheduled School Board Meeting Tuesday, October 13, 2020, the Board of Education approved updated schedules for students in grades 6 – 12 currently attending school on the A/B schedule.
Students in grades 6 – 8 currently attending school on the A/B schedule will return to a five-day in-person attendance schedule as follows:
6th Graders return full time October 19, 2020
7th Graders return full time October 26, 2020
8th Graders return full time November 2, 2020
*Students in grades 7 and 8 will continue attending school on the A/B schedule until their respective phase in dates.
All students in grades 9-12 currently attending school on the A/B schedule will remain on their assigned A/B schedule, but with the option to attend school every Friday, beginning October 23, 2020. In an effort to provide greater support for students, any student earning a C or lower in any class must attend the full school day on Fridays for the remainder of the semester. However, all other students will have the option to attend school on Fridays, as well, or they may continue independent learning at home on Fridays.
This option provides high school students the opportunity to have three days of in-person instruction each week, excluding weeks with holidays. Each Friday, teachers will provide new instruction to those present, and those not present will complete the same learning activities independently from home.
Friday, October 16, 2020, all 9-12 students will receive a letter for their parents with information regarding the requirement or the option for their student to attend school every Friday. This letter requires a parental response and should be returned to the student’s school no later than Wednesday, October 21.
“From the start of the school year our plan has been to return to in-person instruction as soon as it was safe to do so, as we know in-person instruction is so important to students’ ability to learn to their potential and school is essential to the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of children,” said Dr. Sandra Carraway, Superintendent of Schools.
“We will continue to closely monitor the number of positive COVID-19 cases in our community, as we seek to provide our students with safe, healthy environments for learning,” Carraway added.
Parents with questions regarding their child’s schedule should contact their zoned school.
*December 14-18, 2020, are semester exam dates for high school students. Please refer to our official high school exam schedule linked below for attendance on these dates. The exam schedule will impact attendance for Group A and Group B high school students on December 16-18, 2020, because both groups will be attending on the same day at different times.
