Since yesterday was election day, and while we voted, we also witnessed how much tension, hope, fear and uncertainty sit under the surface of our workforce and job market.
Many career-articles tell you: “Be confident in interviews, own your value, show up bold.”
But the truth I've seen is that confidence doesn’t come solely from your words or your resume. It comes from two places we usually don’t talk about enough:
Stable support systems: As in meaningful pay, clear expectations, decent treatment at work.
Real agency: Being able to make decisions, to shift when things suck, to walk away when you’re undervalued.
Take-away this week: What’s ONE decision you can make this week that gives you more agency?
You can start by researching three jobs that will genuinely fit you.
Ask a co-worker, classmate or friend for feedback on how you're being percieved. Or, set boundaries for how many job posts you apply to this week so you don't burn out (side note-job boards and almost a waste of time anyway!)
You get a vote. Every day.
You vote for your boundaries, your time, your sanity, and your future with every yes, or no.
Maybe you don't lack confidence, maybe you’re just reacting to systems that were never designed to center people like you.
