The holidays are about being together—and no military family should have to miss that time because of the cost of travel. ❤️

Through Jack Daniel’s Operation Ride Home, the Armed Services YMCA Fort Bragg is helping eligible junior enlisted military families travel home and reconnect with their loved ones this holiday season.

🇺🇸 Applications are OPEN NOW – November 1, 2026!

Operation Ride Home is available to eligible active duty and Reserve service members and military families, E-1 through E-5, from all six branches of service who may not otherwise have the financial means to travel home for the holidays.

🇺🇸On September 17, 1944, the 82nd Airborne Division parachuted into the Netherlands as part of Operation Market Garden, one of the largest airborne operations of World War II.

Under the command of Brigadier General James Gavin, the All Americans landed roughly 50 miles behind enemy lines with a demanding mission: secure the bridges and crossings over the Maas and Waal Rivers, protect the Allied corridor, and seize the high ground around the Groesbeek Heights to block German reinforcements.

Paratroopers of the 505th, 507th and 508th Parachute Infantry Regiments dropped under clear skies and began moving toward their objectives almost immediately.

At Grave, the 82nd successfully secured the vital bridge across the Maas. Around Nijmegen, however, determined German resistance prevented the immediate capture of the main highway bridge across the Waal.

What followed would become some of the hardest fighting of the operation as the Division fought to hold the corridor open for the advance of British ### Corps.

The photographs here capture those opening hours — men preparing to board aircraft in England before stepping into history.

Some would not return.

More than eight decades later, the 82nd Airborne Division continues to return to the Netherlands to remember the paratroopers who fought, sacrificed and fell during Operation Market Garden.

Their mission became history. Their legacy remains.

Where were you when America came under attack?

The towers fell. The Pentagon burned. Americans aboard Flight 93 fought back.

And while others ran from the fire, our first responders ran straight into it.

They wanted America to crumble.
Instead, they got a nation standing shoulder to shoulder raising our flag above the ruins.

Twenty-five years later, we have a duty to never forget. 🇺🇸 September 11, 2001
