🇺🇸National Airborne Day deserves more than a post. It deserves a standard, so we partnered with CrossFit to build one.

This past Saturday we did just that with LGOPs.

Little Groups of Paratroopers (LGOPs)— is a workout that honors those who stood in the door from 1940 to today.

Every number means something:
1940. 48. 250. 509. 101. 11. 82.

History baked into the suffering.

Huge thanks to King William District CrossFit for hosting.

Head to OVR & OUT for the official LGOPs tee 🤙

Carry the Legacy.
Airborne. All the Way.

How fast could you complete LGOPs? Tell us in the comments.

For more than 80 years, when the call came, the 82nd moved.

Today, nearly 4,000 All Americans are forward once again, carrying the same patch and standing ready to answer the same call as the Paratroopers who came before them.

To every Paratrooper who stood in the door, National Airborne Day is yours.

On August 16, 1940, the first official U.S. Army parachute jump proved that American troops could enter the fight from the sky.

Today, we recognize that legacy on National Airborne Day.

Sicily. Salerno. Normandy. Holland. The Bulge. The Dominican Republic. Vietnam. Grenada. Panama. Desert Storm. Afghanistan. Iraq. Haiti. Kabul.

For more than 80 years, when the call came, the 82nd moved.

To every Paratrooper who stood in the door, carried the weight and upheld the standard, past and present, this day is yours.

September 17, 1944.

Gene Metcalfe climbed aboard a C-47 bound for Groesbeek Heights outside Nijmegen.

When he jumped, German 88s and machine guns were already waiting.

Later, Gene went out on patrol. He was the only man who didn’t make it back.

The Army listed him killed in action.

But Gene wasn’t dead.

When he came to, he was a prisoner of war.

82 years later, Gene climbed aboard a C-47 again—this time surrounded by 82nd Airborne veterans and today’s Paratroopers, listening as he told them what happened when his generation wore the patch.

This how we at the 80th National Airborne Convention.

If you had five minutes sitting across from Gene, what would you ask him? 🇺🇸🪂

🪂Eighty conventions later, the wings still mean something.

This week, we rally in San Antonio for the 80th National Airborne Convention—to shake hands, trade stories, and remember the Paratroopers who didn’t make it back.

🇺🇸For 250 years, Americans have stepped forward when the country called. USAA’s National Military Monument makes sure their service isn’t reduced to a footnote.
