🛑Meet Ashley & Kyle, the team behind the signs you see all around Fairhope!
As Traffic Technician and Lead Sign Technician, Ashley and Kyle are responsible for designing, making, installing and maintaining traffic signs throughout the city. From street signs and stop signs to the many other signs that help you get where you’re going, their work plays an important role in keeping Fairhope moving safely. 🚦
And there’s a lot more to making a sign than you might think! It takes math, patience and plenty of attention to detail. There are also specific rules for traffic signs, including where they can be placed, when they can be used and even what size they need to be.
Ashley has been with the city for nearly two years and says one of her favorite parts of the job is getting the opportunity to learn new skills. When asked what people might not realize about their work, she put it best: “It’s not just sticking some letters on a sign and calling it a day!”
Kyle enjoys serving the public and helping make Fairhope a great place to live and visit. When it comes to the most challenging part of his job, his answer was simple: “Balancing what people need versus what people want.”
And a fun fact about the people behind the signs? Ashley loves a good conspiracy theory and says, “I'm not saying I believe every one of them…but I’m definitely willing to hear them out!”
Next time you pass a street sign around Fairhope, there’s a good chance Ashley and Kyle had a hand in it!
