Preferred Systems has been in operation since 1995 and has been working with the trades and labor industry for 15 years. We have connections to the local unions such as the Steamfitters, Plumbers, Iron Workers, Roofers, Carpenters, and Electricians to name a few as well as several Pittsburgh unions. They have a history of working with populations to provide them with skills to make them more marketable and have worked with local, regional, and contractors from other states such as Barton Malow. Although their experience has been heavily involved in the skilled trades, they are also connected with manufacturers through involvement with Erie Regional Manufacturing Partnership.
Preferred Systems is accustomed to working with people that have one or more barriers to employment and have worked with employers to be flexible with their hiring of people that may have criminal backgrounds. PSI helps their clients meet their employment goals by offering assessment through the hiring process and follow-up after employment placement. They ensure qualified safety standards are followed to people they work to place in jobs that will require precautionary measures. Our first objective is to make sure that people can perform their job duties with the right preparation, education and training and safety awareness to ensure that everyone on the worksite is protected from the working conditions as much as humanly possible.
Perhaps equally importantly, however, trainees will be provided education and training on the "soft skill" competencies that have been identified by employers as essential to successful placement and retention. Accordingly, and in addition to entry-level skilled labor or construction training, program curriculum will include modules on interpersonal communication, attitude, basic employment skills and math/reading improvement.
