Our Day Hab recently took a trip to Dunning’s Spring in Decorah, where clients enjoyed a nature walk, explored the beautiful surroundings, and checked out the waterfall!

Outings like this are about so much more than a fun day away. Community experiences give the people we serve opportunities to practice social skills, make choices, try new experiences, stay active, build confidence, and become more comfortable accessing the communities around them.

At RISE, we believe learning and growth can happen anywhere, even on a trail next to a waterfall! 🌳🥾💛

By providing support while encouraging independence and participation, we help each person build skills and experiences that contribute to a full and meaningful life.

🌟 Learning, Growing & Focusing on Wellbeing! 🌟

Over the past six weeks, RISE participants had the opportunity to take part in "My Wellbeing", an educational program developed by Clayton County 4-H & ISU Extension and Outreach specifically with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in mind.

Each week, participants explored a different part of what it means to live a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. Throughout the six sessions, we learned about:

💛 Understanding our own wellbeing and what makes us feel our best
🤝 Building strong relationships and supporting our social and emotional health
💰 Understanding money and financial wellbeing
💪 Taking care of our physical health and having the energy to do the things we enjoy
🌱 Making positive choices that support our overall quality of life

The program also gave everyone a chance to participate in discussions and activities, and think about the choices we can make every day to improve our own wellbeing.

We are so thankful for the opportunity to participate in My Wellbeing and for the time, knowledge and encouragement provided throughout all six sessions! It was a wonderful reminder that wellbeing looks a little different for everyone—and even small positive choices can make a difference. 💚

🎉 Celebrating 6 Years of RISE Oelwein Day Hab! 🎉

On this day in 2020, during a time when so many doors were closing and the world was filled with uncertainty, RISE was opening a new one. 💛

We officially opened the doors to our Oelwein Day Habilitation Program with just 8 clients and a whole lot of excitement about what this new program could become.
Six years later, those 8 clients have grown to 26! 🥳

But the numbers only tell part of the story. Over the past six years, Oelwein Day Hab has become a place for friendships, new experiences, community involvement, learning, laughter, independence, and plenty of memories along the way.
We are incredibly proud of how much this program has grown and grateful for every client, staff member, family, guardian, community partner, and supporter who has been part of the journey.

From 8 to 26 and still growing — here's to six years of opening doors, creating opportunities, and changing lives in the Oelwein community. 💛🖤

At RISE, support doesn’t just happen within our walls, it happens wherever life happens! Our staff work alongside the people we serve to help them build independence, learn new skills, and participate in activities that are meaningful to them.

Whether it’s working on landscaping around their home, preparing meals, completing household tasks, getting involved in the community, or pursuing a favorite hobby, RISE provides support while encouraging each person to be as involved and independent as possible.

It’s about more than getting a task done—it’s about building skills, confidence, pride, and a sense of accomplishment along the way. 💛🌱
