El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Steven Jones joined the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology Roundtable on Friday as a speaker at the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture in Little Rock. Following US Congressman Bruce Westerman's remarks on implementing biotechnology through the use of timber products, Jones discussed El Dorado's history of industrial-chemical production, the outlook for biomanufacturing in Union County, and how El Dorado best fits the ecosystem with local feedstock (timber) and efficient logistics in addition to the proximity of the Highland Defense Park in East Camden. Jones shared that El Dorado should be a key contributor in continuing to grow South Arkansas into a national security asset.
