John Lennon Endowed Scholarship Program

Established by Yoko Ono in memory of her late husband, entertainer John Lennon, in partnership with UNCF, this scholarship provides financial support to deserving students attending one of 37 UNCF member institutions.

Eligibility Requirements

Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale
Completed FAFSA
Demonstrated unmet financial need
Enrolled full-time at a UNCF member institution
Major in Communications, Mass Communications, Mass Media Arts, Music, or Performing Arts

Application Requirements

Current academic transcript
Two letters of recommendation:
One academic
One from a community or employment reference
Essay of up to 2,000 characters describing career interests related to the applicant’s field of study

Award
Recipients may receive up to $5,000 for the 2026–2027 academic year, based on financial need. The scholarship may be renewable annually, subject to funding and continued eligibility.

🎓 Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

Be a graduating senior attending a UNCF Member Institution or other HBCU
Complete the FAFSA
Commit to using scholarship funds to retire institutional debt or reduce college loan indebtedness
Submit a one-page essay on a topic related to peace and justice
Have remaining financial need, with preference given to Pell-eligible students

2026–2027 UNCF/AFLAC Foundation Scholarship
The UNCF/AFLAC Foundation Scholarship is available to permanent residents of Columbus, Georgia who are full-time undergraduate students attending a four-year college or university during the 2026–2027 academic year.
Eligibility:
• Minimum 2.5 cumulative weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Must have completed the FAFSA
• Must demonstrate unmet financial need
• Must be a permanent resident of Columbus, GA, within the listed eligible ZIP codes
• Must be a freshman, sophomore, junior, senior, or fifth-year undergraduate
• Must be enrolled full-time at a four-year college/university
Application Requirements:
• Submit the application through the UNCF online scholarship portal
• Deadline: November 6, 2026
• Submit a one-page personal statement describing career interests
• Upload an official or unofficial current transcript
• All materials must be submitted by the deadline
Decision Timeline: Applicants with complete applications should receive scholarship decisions approximately 8–10 weeks after the application deadline.
