No woman should have to give birth in front of a camera.

Flood Law has filed a federal civil rights lawsuit alleging that Michigan corrections officers stayed in Natalie Forrest's hospital room with body cameras recording through her labor, delivery, and recovery. The suit also alleges an officer told her mother that taking a photo of the newborn would add two years to Natalie's sentence.

According to the complaint, MDOC leaders had been warned in writing weeks earlier that filming undressed women broke Michigan's felony voyeurism law.

"Giving birth should be one of the most private moments of a woman's life. Instead, Natalie Forrest labored in front of cameras that MDOC's own leadership had been warned, in writing, were being used illegally. This case is about accountability." — Todd F. Flood

Forrest, et al. v. Barksdale, et al. (E.D. Mich.). The claims are allegations and have not been proven in court.

Police shoot Navy veteran 7 times. No gun found.

FOX 2 Detroit sat down with Todd Flood on the updated federal filing in the death of Navy veteran John Jenuwine.

On January 6, 2026, 34-year-old John Jenuwine was shot and killed by Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies after a pursuit in Ypsilanti Township. He was unarmed. No gun was recovered from his van.

After reviewing newly obtained Michigan State Police footage, more than 250 gigabytes of bodycam and dashcam the family says was not part of the original public account, Flood Law filed an amended complaint. The updated filing names eight deputies and sergeants and adds claims of deliberate indifference to medical needs, supervisory liability, and assault and battery.

A parallel investigation remains under review by the Michigan Attorney General’s office. No criminal charges have been issued.

“The sentencing guidelines for fleeing police do not include death.” That has been Flood Law’s position from the start, and we will not stop fighting for the parents, Larry and Kelly Jenuwine, or for their son John.

A fall may happen in seconds, but understanding who's responsible often requires careful review. Not every fall leads to a legal claim. When a property owner may have failed to address a hazard they knew or should have known about, the details documented early on can make an important difference.

Here are a few kinds of documentation that may help clarify what happened:

▪️Photographs of the condition and the surrounding area
▪️Incident reports completed at the location
▪️Names and contact information for any witnesses
▪️Medical records from your treatment
▪️The footwear you were wearing, kept as it was that day

What matters can also vary by setting. A fall in a retail store may involve surveillance footage and cleaning logs, while a fall in an apartment building may turn on maintenance requests and prior complaints. Falls in an office or on public property can raise additional questions about who controls the space and which rules apply. Because conditions are often corrected quickly, it's wise to preserve what you can promptly and speak with a qualified attorney about your specific circumstances.

Flood Law is on the High Vibe Trail Rides case.

Senior attorney David Champine just spoke with CBS Detroit about the new lawsuit over Oakland County’s seizure of 38 horses from the Milford trail-ride business.

No criminal charges were filed. Thirty-seven horses were returned. One horse, Knox, was euthanized while in county custody.

The complaint says key facts were left out of the search-warrant affidavits, including a July 16 welfare check that documented the horses in good condition with access to food, water, and shelter, and a July 30 veterinary exam that found 35 of 37 within a normal body-condition range.

Jury convicts former Sinai-Grace nurse Wilfredo Figueroa-Berrios of sexually assaulting a patient. The civil case against the institution continues.

Our firm is pursuing civil claims against Sinai-Grace Hospital, Detroit Medical Center, and Tenet Healthcare. The criminal verdict addresses one defendant’s conduct. The civil litigation examines a different question: what the hospital system knew, when it knew it, and whether it protected patients in its care.

A hospital is supposed to be a place of safety. When a caregiver exploits that trust, institutions can be held to account for hiring, supervision, and response to prior complaints.
