Not every home we clean is a house in the suburbs. 🌾

Some are farmhouses. Some are lofts downtown. Some have three kids, four pets, and a kitchen that sees a lot of action. We love that no two look alike, and that we get to show up for all of them the same way, with care, consistency, and people who love what they do.

Remember Ngun? A few months back we celebrated her first year with Shine. Today we get to share what came next. 🏡

This summer, Ngun bought a home and moved her family in.

If you've followed along, you know how much Ngun pours into her work. She's dependable, she's genuinely good at what she does, and she leads by example without ever needing to make noise about it. Cindy and Caryn were invited to join a small business roundtable hosted by Rob Sand, candidate for Iowa Governor, alongside ten other local business owners, all together to talk about what it really takes to run a business in our community.

And they came ready to share. They spoke to the heart of what SHINE stands for: taking care of your people first, investing in your community, and creating real opportunity for the folks who make it all run. Workforce development, supporting your team, building something that lasts. The things closest to who we are.

This rebrand is not just about new colors or a cleaner logo (although, we are pretty proud of those too). It is about showing up as the business we have grown into. This is one of our favorite stories to tell.

When Melisa Kwizera arrived in Iowa in 2021, everything about her life here was going to have to be built from scratch. She'd come from a refugee camp in Malawi with her three kids, and she was starting over in a place where she didn't yet speak the language or know how to get herself across town.

She came to work with us in 2022. And what we remember is that she never let a day go by without moving something forward. English classes at night, practice with the crew during the day, driving lessons whenever she could fit them in, all of it while raising three kids on her own. She saved for months and bought her first car, and that was the point where you could see everything start to open up for her.

A year in, she had a full time job and a life in Des Moines she was running entirely herself.

And a year after that, she brought her mom, her sisters, and her brother out of the camp and home to Iowa.

She got her whole family here. Four years after arriving with almost nothing.

We were lucky to know her, and we're still so proud 💛
