Nearly half of employers don’t expect AI to change their headcount at all.

That caught my attention.

A new Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis survey found that 49% of employers expect no noticeable staffing impact from AI. Another 18% expect AI to change the skills they need, but not the number of people they employ.

That’s a very different story from the “AI is coming for everyone’s job” headlines.

And I think the skills piece is the part worth paying attention to.

AI may not mean companies need fewer people. It may mean they need people with different skills.
