Radiology and imaging is a noninvasive way for our pediatric specialists to see what is going on inside a patient, which helps determine the best treatment. "Shriners is the only place I feel completely comfortable showing my scars."

Those are powerful words from Carrie, a burn survivor and former Shriners Children's patient. She was burned in 1968 at just three years old. She was initially treated at a different hospital, but came to Shriners Children's after her mother learned about our care at a community picnic. She traveled from Evansville, Indiana to our hospital several times a year until her final surgery in 1981.

"One thing I remember are the Shriners," Carrie recalled. "They never seemed to mind the long hours in the car and always had candy just for me. Because of them and the hospital, I will always give back to Shriners."

Cooler days mean more bonfires and that can be a recipe for an accidental burn. So here are a few reminders to keep your family safe:

✔️ Establish a circle of safety - a safe zone around the fire where children don't cross.
✔️ Keep tents and other flammables far from the fire
✔️The coals from an extinguished fire can stay hot enough to burn for up to 24 hours.

Multidisciplinary conversations advance pediatric sports medicine care and research. The Shriners Children's Sports Consortium, held at Shriners Children's Chicago brought together sports medicine and orthopedic specialists from Shriners Children's locations. The discussions covered a range of topics, including active research projects, sports patient-reported outcomes, the motion analysis center, rehabilitation, and education.
