Sometimes you feel like a nut!
Today we honor the only nut native to the United States. National Pecan Day highlights the pecan's nutritional value (high protein), culinary versatility, and economic impact, often celebrating George Washington planting pecan trees in 1775. The pecan is the state tree of Texas, and the U.S. produces 75% of the world's pecans. It's a member of the walnut family, producing a sweet, buttery, mildly sweet nut that ripens in the fall.
Whether you love them in a pie, candied, or right out of the shell, pecans are a delicious, nutritious snack!
