America, and the world for that matter, finds itself in times of great distress. Many of us feel like we are living in the upside down. The security we felt just a couple months ago has completely given way to an oblivion of fear. The dark memories of the last downturn that seemed so distant have returned. Though this time around no area of the economy is sheltered really, especially healthcare. So many in HIM have been furloughed until census picks up, which at this time feels quite uncertain. Just because elective surgeries have been delayed, doesn’t mean the patients will be eager to get them done as they weigh their fears of infection in a healthcare setting and saving their hard earned dollars. There is little comfort that we can offer other than to say that we are living through history. And times of great difficulty have usually led to a nation that comes together and crafts a better world. There are many lessons we can learn. Perhaps the foremost is how be truly honest with ourselves and loved ones about what is really important in this life. The virus’ spread will no doubt leave all of us knowing someone who will have succumbed or fought a battle that has left them scarred. Let us simply say a prayer for all of us and express our gratitude of the infinite beauty of life that we get to celebrate with each breath.
Now for a bit of levity tonight.
