Life Learning Center - Northern Kentucky

Life Learning Center - Northern Kentucky Delivering a holistic, integrated continuum of education & care to those at-risk.
(1)

Life Learning Center delivers The Foundations for a Better Life™ 12-week program that focuses on addressing five domains of life: physical, financial, spiritual, emotional, and relational. These on-going barriers often derive from the addiction epidemic, increased incarceration, and childhood poverty rates rising in our local tri-state area. These factors directly hinder an individual’s ability to generate an income for their family, leaving citizens “at-risk” hopeless and unemployable.

The Target4 Project partners with Life Learning Center to provide HIV and hepatitis C testing, health education, safe supplies and wholistic referrals to community members. Through this partnership Target4 Project staff have witnessed firsthand how Life Learning Center serves and supports its participants and the NKY community.

“Partnering with Life Learning Center was a no brainer! They are a great resource to the community, and we thought it would be a good way to meet individuals who could benefit from our services like HIV and Hepatitis C testing. It’s been a rewarding experience! Everyone has been so kind and grateful for the work that we do. It makes our job that much more enjoyable.” - Lindsey Gerrein MSW, CSW, Health Education Coordinator

Life Learning Center works with over 130 community and residential partners. If you would like to help us on our quest to provide dignity and hope to those we serve, reach out to [email protected].

Before coming to Life Learning Center, Mackenzie was struggling with homelessness, unemployment, and family challenges. “I had no life, I didn’t have a job, I was in a shelter, I had family issues,” she shared.

At Life Learning Center, Mackenzie found support, community, and the opportunity to build confidence and life skills. “Now I have life skills, I have preparation for the future, I feel a little bit more confident in what I’m doing.”

Since joining the program, she has gained transportation and insurance and worked toward stability. Mackenzie now hopes to pursue a career in facilities maintenance and believes her future is brighter than she once imagined.

“Life Learning Center has given me hope. I can be successful and my future is brighter than I thought.”

Her advice to others: “Give it a chance. It’s overwhelming at first, but it really teaches you how to live life and gives you a community.”

On her journey to reentry, Kristin came to Life Learning Center through Sunstone. “It was eye opening,” she said. “I was like wow, these people can really help.”

Coming into the Foundations for a Better Life™ curriculum , Kristin didn’t realize how much she would learn. “Relationships was helpful, setting boundaries and being confident enough to say what she needs and wants.”

Kristin realized she needed a new career path and became certified as a welder, later applying to Iron Workers Local 44. Along the way, she gained job readiness skills, confidence and learned how to build healthy relationships and set boundaries.

Coming in with nothing besides the clothes on her back, Kristin says Life Learning Center gave her the resources, support and stability she needed. “Everyone is so helpful, it’s positive, it’s what it says it’s going to be,” she shared. “If you come here, you will be taken care of. You will find purpose and meaning.”

Her advice to others: “If you come to Life Learning Center from rock bottom, it will definitely take you to the top as fast as possible.”

After experiencing homelessness, Abraham found hope and support through Life Learning Center. Today, he has earned his peer support license and is continuing his journey through the Enzweiler carpentry program while working toward his dream of one day starting his own business.

Abraham says the positivity at LLC made all the difference. “When you get out of rehab, there’s not a lot of positivity,” he shared. “It’s given me hope. It gives you an idea that there’s still life out there.”

He says the program offers incredible resources for a small amount of commitment, and most importantly, reminds people that they are not alone. Abraham has an innovative vision for the future. He has big plans for starting a business that allows him to utilize his background in alternative fuel and his new carpentry credential.

After struggling with drug addiction, Michael made the decision to refer himself to Life Learning Center. Today, he’s part of the Enzweiler Building Institute and Life Learning Center program where individuals go through LLC programming in addition to hands on training in the skilled trades. Michael has decided to pursue the welding discipline within this program. He also recently applied to a job in the union and is taking major steps toward a brighter future.

Through resources like clothing assistance, tattoo removal, and ongoing support, he says the program removed the roadblocks that once held him back.

“Life Learning Center is a great place. It turned me around. It brought out me.”
Now, he stays busy, stays humble, and is focused on success. “I’m happy now. I’m more motivated for success now.” And even after graduation, he says it feels like a lifelong partnership.

Kimberly is going great! After trying other programs, Kimberly says nothing compares to Life Learning Center. Moving from California without family nearby, she found more than support here through acceptance, community and independence.

Today, she works at Tyson as a machine operator and in sanitation, has been able to provide for her daughter, and feels truly comfortable for the first time in a long time.

“It’s a good feeling, you feel accepted at Life Learning Center.”
Kimberly believes every state, from Florida to California, needs a Life Learning Center because “there’s so much this place has to offer.”

Russell came to the Life Learning Center after battling homelessness and hopelessness. From the very beginning of Life Learning Center’s programming, Russell says that “beautiful things started to happen,” like visitation with his son, receiving his driver’s license, etc.

Today, he’s restored his relationship with his son, found family through Fellowship and Life Learning Center, has a job that he loves and is building a new future. His 5-year vision is to buy a house and open his own body shop restoring cars. We could not be more proud of him for that.

“The people at LLC showed me that life has a bigger meaning.” Russell would like to tell other people out there struggling that, “Life has so much to offer. Get to know yourself, clear the wreckage, and seek help. Help is out there.”
