Today, Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend was proud to attend the 2026 State of the Industry Luncheon hosted by the Portland Chamber of Commerce.

This annual event brings together business leaders, industry professionals, and community stakeholders to discuss the opportunities, challenges, and future of our region’s industrial economy. This year’s conversation featured leaders from some of the Coastal Bend’s most important industrial employers, including OxyChem, Chemours, Gulf Coast Growth Ventures, and ArcelorMittal Texas HBI.

Hearing directly from industry leaders helps our region better understand where business is headed and, just as importantly, what skills and talent will be needed to support that growth.

At Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend, we believe a strong economy and a strong workforce go hand in hand. When we listen to our employers, understand their needs, and connect those needs to workforce development opportunities, we help create pathways to good jobs while strengthening the businesses and communities we serve.

Events like the State of the Industry luncheon are an important part of keeping that conversation going and ensuring that the Coastal Bend workforce is prepared for what comes next.

Since joining WFSCB in 2022, Valerie Ann has continued to grow as a leader within our Child Care team, helping support the programs and services that strengthen childcare across the Coastal Bend.

Her journey with WFSCB includes serving as:

Building Stronger Partnerships for Child Care & Workforce Development!

Recently, Workforce Solutions Coastal Bend Leadership met with Camp Fire to explore opportunities for immediate collaboration focused on Apprenticeships, Early Learning, and Professional Development.

While Camp Fire is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, its reach and expertise extend well beyond its home community, creating valuable opportunities for workforce development partnerships.

At the heart of this collaboration is one of our most essential industries: Child Care!

Why does this matter? Because child care is an economic driver. When parents have access to reliable, quality child care, they are better able to work, pursue education, and build their careers. Employment leads to earned wages, and those wages are invested, spent, and saved right here in our communities.

WFSCB looks forward to the success of future projects and the positive impact we can create by working alongside Camp Fire to strengthen our childcare workforce and support thriving communities.
