The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (National Registry) is the non-profit Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Certification organization for the United States. Its mission is to provide a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS clinicians throughout their careers, and to maintain a registry of certification status. All 50 sta

tes recognize National Registry certification, while 48 states use National Registry certification as a basis for licensure. EMS clinicians at the Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Advanced EMT (AEMT) and Paramedic levels work in a variety of capacities throughout the nation as first responders, in hospitals and medical facilities, in schools and colleges, with the police and military and in many other settings.

There is no better way to strengthen partnerships than by getting people in the same room.

Today, the National Registry is welcoming state EMS leaders from across the country to Columbus, OH for our State Directors' Orientation. Representatives from 13 states, one U.S. territory, and Washington, D.C. are joining us, including state EMS directors, state EMS education leaders, and others who help shape EMS in their communities.

Throughout the orientation, members of the National Registry team, including our Partnerships & Advocacy Team, are providing a closer look at who we are, how we operate and, most importantly, how we work alongside State EMS Offices.

It is also an opportunity for open conversation: to answer questions, provide clarity, address common misconceptions and better understand the needs and perspectives of our state partners.

Because while our roles may be different, our goal is shared: supporting a strong EMS workforce and the Clinicians who serve communities across the nation.

We’re grateful to have so many of our state partners with us in Columbus and look forward to the conversations ahead.

August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day. On the front lines, a Clinician encounters the devastating reality of addiction daily. Your rapid, compassionate interventions offer individuals experiencing an overdose a crucial second chance at life.

However, the immense stress and trauma of EMS can take a heavy toll. A Clinician is not immune to substance use challenges, and this day is a vital reminder to support colleagues who may be struggling in silence. Raising awareness means breaking down the stigma that prevents healthcare professionals from seeking help.

The National Registry stands with our community to promote healing, reduce stigma, and ensure wellness resources are accessible to every provider. Let's continue to look out for our patients and each other.
