When somebody asks me “why would I join the Marines when the Air Force is easier” or whichever branch, I emphasize the value of intangibles. Sadly, intangibles like discipline, leadership, stress management, courage cannot be promised or given as a benefit. And few these days understand how they are achieved. They can only be earned through challenging yourself and leaning to embrace uncomfortable circumstances. The Marine Corps is NOT unnecessarily hard, it is intentional in all the challenges it faces it’s Recruits and Marines with. It builds the human up, it doesn’t just supply them with shiny new toys to compensate for lack of intangible skills. It won’t coddle your feelings because the enemy and the world in general could care less. This is the why in one of our countries most vulnerable times, when many of our resources are stretched thin and many forces stand not ready, the Marines remain ready to fight and protect. This is why the Marine Corps is now, and will continue to be, the Most feared and powerful fighting force on earth.
This can only continue so long as the right people find their way to the process of earning the Title. I believe there are still men and women who love their country and would rather do something difficult to earn pride than take the easy road. If you feel you fit the bill, get a hold of me.
