PUBLIC SERVICE ANOUNCEMENT!! The temperatures are supposed to be extremely hot this weekend. Please make sure you stay hydrated and indoors as much as you can.

Here are some safety tips for working in the heat:

1. Stay hydrated- Always have cool water on hand when working outdoors. OSHA recommends drinking one liter of water every hour, which breaks down to about eight ounces every 15-20 minutes.

2. Eat to fuel your day- Be aware of what you are consuming throughout the day and how it can impact your body while working in the heat. You may feel more comfortable by eating several smaller meals instead of a traditional breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout your day.

3. Take regular breaks- Rest is incredibly important while working in the heat. Take frequent breaks either in the shade or an air-conditioned, indoor area to bring your body temperature down. Use this time to hydrate and snack as well.

4. Take time to acclimatize- Acclimatization is the process of building tolerance to the heat. As you spend more time outside in the summer or working in a hot environment, your body will slowly get used to it.

5. Protect your skin- Depending on your outdoor work, if possible, wear lightweight and light-colored clothing. Many outdoor workers are required to wear certain gear for protection. And while light clothing can protect against heat illness, only wear these items if they will not create a hazard in your workplace.

6. Monitor the weather- If you will be working outside, or you manage workers who will be outside, make sure you monitor the weather and real-time heat index. Monitor both to help you prepare for your time outside and plan breaks.

7. Use the buddy system- Work outside with a partner to ensure everyone stays safe and can get quick help if showing signs of heat-related illness. Symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, fatigue, confusion, nausea, vomiting, fainting, and seizures. If someone shows signs of heat stroke or severe heat exhaustion, call 911 and get medical help immediately.

Day 5 of How to get fired...as a temp...
8. 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬 - It's pretty self-explanatory. You take your breaks in the allotted break times. You do not get to stop working and take a break whenever you like.

To sum it up, as long as you are at work every day and you at least act like you want to be there, don't whine and complain, don't talk about your former employer, listen to any and all safety rules and do not violate them, do not have any attendance issues, don't ask your supervisor about full-time status, stay off of your phone and do not take excessive breaks then you do not have to worry about losing your job. Because let's face it, we all need a job and have bills to pay.

You should ask questions, be involved, take allotted lunch and break times, be on time and present, and work while you are at work. Have a positive attitude, focus on consistency, and perform well. You're allowed to have bad days but do not let your bad days cost you your job.

Day 4 of How To Get Fired...As A Temp...

6.𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐟𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬- If you are intersted in full-time status, a͟s͟k͟ y͟o͟u͟r͟ s͟t͟a͟f͟f͟i͟n͟g͟ c͟o͟m͟p͟a͟n͟y͟, NOT YOUR SUPERVISOR. Let your actions do the talking, and opportunity will come.

7. 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐞- OK, we completly understand that your girlfriend had to take your cat to the vet and she really wants to let you kow how it all went right in the middle of your shift, but if you take that call, please be advised that the next call that comes out of that plant will probably be your supervisor calling us to end your assignment.

Check bacnk tomorrow for reason number 8, the last one of this series.

Day 3 of How To Get Fired...As a Temp...
4. 𝐕𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞- Safety is not just in your best interest. There are multiple ways employers get docked for accidents and injuries on the work site. Of all the quick ways to get canned, acting uninterested during safety meetings and/or violating safety rules is the fastest.
5. 𝐇𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐞𝐬- Go ahead, call out entirely anytime you need to take your uncle's cousin's niece to her doctor's appoitment. Bad attendance is one of the worst things you can do.

Check back tomorrow for numbers 6 and 7.

Day 2 of How to Get Fired...as a Temp...

2. 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧- NOBODY likes to work with a whiner, much less one they do not know. If you want to get kicked to the curb faster than you can say, "This job is so boring," then go ahead and say, "This job is so boring."

3. 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐨𝐲𝐞𝐫- Unless you specifically ask, employers don't want to hear how the place you worked at before did things so much better. This works the other way too. Nobody wants to hear how bad your other workplace sucked because it makes you look like a whiner (see point 2).

Check back tomorrow for pints 4 and 5.

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝...𝐀𝐬 𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩...
As most anyone will tell you, first impressions are the most lasting. That perception can be challenging if someone's first impression is negative.
On your first day, not only will the company as a whole be forming opinions of your work ethic. Still, you will be making dozens of first impressions on everyone you meet- everyone you could work with daily for the foreseeable future. Here are 8 things NOT to do while you have temporary status. Check our page every day this week for all eight insights.

1. 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 — It does not matter whether you were hired to be a janitor or the Vice President of Operations if your supervisor hands you a mop and a bucket, ask what needs mopping, them promptly and cheerfully set t work. If you indicate that you are not a team player, you likely won't make it to the end of day one, much less day two!

Check back tomorrow for 2 and 3!
